What is the $100/yr subscription for?

Im providing the storage, the digital converter, the Apple TV. I don’t get it. The guide data is already part of the channels app, so its not that. Hulu, Netflix, and amazon prime are all this price and we are talking about $8/mo for software than provides a file list from my storage nas to your app.

I would be tempted if your channels app had a subscription option for 0.99/mo or something in order to support development. This is a great idea, but I implore you to reconsider the pricing model before it leaves beta.

While some guide data comes down for shows that are currently on, the extended guide data (up to 2 weeks) isn’t in the Apple TV app; that costs extra money. EyeTV charged $20/yr; Schedules Direct (which is used for MythTV) is $25/year.

This would put the software at $75-$80 per year. You’re paying for updates and continuous development. Software is not cheap to develop and $0.99/month does not make a sustainable business model.

I spend like $70 a week on gas, I think spending $96 a year on something I use way more than my car is worth it.

There are several threads that have discussions on the $8/mo, $96/year fee. You should search for them.

Here is what I think. If you don’t think it’s worth the price, don’t purchase it, there are alternatives out there, so vote with your pocketbook. It’s better than a blog post. There are other DVR solutions using your hardware and SD hardware that aren’t as expensive. if you don’t have the hardware already, then all the solutions in this arena like SDs, Kodi, Plex, etc don’t matter. If you already have it then you can’t amortize it against the Channels DVR, because you already did that for its initial purchase. The DVR is now running on almost everything with direct attached storage created in the last 3 years.

But, there are a lot of people that find that this solution is AT LEAST 2.742857142857143 times better than the other solutions out there.

Personally:
I like the apps better, they look great and have great features and are stable.

I like the DVR better. it has great features already and it hasn’t left beta.

I like the support better. Even with such a small team running on caffeine and lima beans, it’s been a pleasure.

I like the responsiveness better. They are listening and weighing worthiness and developing so fast.

I like the honesty better. When they can’t do something (like encrypted channels) they let us know. They don’t give us a lot of promises they don’t keep.

if you already have the hardware and TVOs clients, then give it a whirl and see what you think, it’ll only cost you $8 and you can cancel if your right, or don’t and use the other services.

Great response. I think the Devs are top notch and the best in the industry in terms of customer support and communications.

Yes, I totally support the Developers and the subscription model. But, I also find $8/mo is expensive. The pricing is little high, considering on top of my current monthly subscription: Sling TV, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and HBO. If it were priced between $3 to $4 a month, I would be willing to join. $96 a year is too much for some of us when we have been putting money on Netflix and others already. I know it’s a small chance that the developers would consider to lower the price because the early bird beta users have already been paying $8. It’s just too bad. :frowning: Because of $8/mo, it forced me to get Plex Lifetime Premium Pass, which I was very reluctant to get. But, at least this is just a one-time purchase.

Yeah, that seems like it would just be cheaper to own cable, and take advantage of all the subscriber only apps for what your paying for the same content on those streaming only solutions.

I kicked out all cable and packages like Sling, and instead went OTA/Channels DVR. that also made Hulu redundant, so I could drop it too I keep Netflix around for movies, and I buy the one-off series like Mr Robot on iTunes.(adds about 3/mo).

There are always going to be shows that I will probably never see like westworld or Game of Thrones, but im OK with that and my choices give me more than enough "TV’ for my $21/mo.

I think the one thing that makes TV cheap for me is i don’t give 2 crackers about sports. I watch the occasional game on TV but i could take them or leave them.

A yearly subscription option is now available for Channels DVR: https://getchannels.com/2018/07/11/yearly-billing/

Thank you!!! The yearly subscription option is HUGE… and super great at $80. Nice discount incentive. Who doesn’t like to save a bit of money? This makes an already spectacular option even more spectacular!!

Not enough IMO. I will pick DVR back up when/if it is around $3/month. not worth it otherwise - I provide everything needed.

Love the yearly option! It allows me to binge-buy the full year and not feel guilty every month when I get notified of the payment

Now, seriously. It is nice. I switched to yearly.

Love the lower price and yearly subscription. A Mac App would make this perfect! Not a big fan of the web based viewer on the Mac.

Except for their DVR software/interface.

Very appreciative for that annual DVR option. Now if only you’d reconsider the highly requested option of a trial version of your main app.
It’s almost a guarantee that you would gain many more paid users if they could simply try out the app before having to fork over $25 for it. (The minuscule two hour Google Play Store refund period does NOT suffice for a trial period).
