When recordings fail on one HDHomeRun channel, no attempt is made on other available channels?

I'm not the focus user who has a single Channels DVR server with a reliable signal.

My channels-dvd.log shows that Channels knows an episode is available on both [7.1 and 7.10] but repeatedly fails in this case to tune to "7.1" that's taking a break due to atmospheric conditions. Often the weaker backup "7.10" can come to the rescue, but the Channels DVR server doggedly retries the bad channel.

I have my "pass" set to record on "Any" channel number added back in 5.7.0, but Channels is only attempting one channel and not trying the alternate channel it knows about.

Perhaps a word or two on what "Any" channel number in a "pass" means. Clicking my DVR Schedule I can see "7.1,7.10" so I think this means the current match would try "7.1" first. For other Scheduled episodes I see a mix of "7.1" before or after the "7.10" making me think Channels is randomly picking a channel.

Because different channels are potentially serving different feeds of the show (different codecs, bitrates, time offsets, commercials) once the DVR has started to record on a certain channel it will not pick up recording on a different one.

If it never successfully records on 7.1 it will attempt to use the next channel in the order (7.10 in your case).

THANKS for the QUICK reply.

This explains that the first channel listed in the DVR Schedule & Pass will be the first attempted, and on most days if that first channel is dead it would attempt the 2nd channel.

I haven't played with Channels enough to see if I can force channel priority, but "Source Priority" is a great start.

Recordings with any gaps can result in playback failures, even when post processed with ffmpeg to chop out the errors and watch with VLC. Channels marks these as "Failed", which is a good warning to not expect a usable recording.

My 2nd Channels DVR has a strong urban signal a time zone away that covers most gaps from my heavily forested site where who knows which multi-path I'm picking up.

Currently using ClearStream C1 with Winegard LNA-200 amp. More directional antenas were worse. Higher up on my 10ft. mast was worse. Neighbors with 40' towers are a different story, and maybe a future home for my DVR... but directional antenna rotors and DVRs don't mix well
