Which is the correct app to watch live HDHomeRun?

I am sorry if I seem obtuse, but the app naming scheme and promotion is confusing to me.

Which app would I be looking for to simply watch live TV from my HDHomeRun device?

  1. Will the Channels for HDHomerun app consume the HDHomerun stream as http or udp?
  2. Does the Channels for HDHomerun app support .m3u files as source of live channels?

Once again, thank you for your great support!

I have two HDHomerun devices, one local to my home network and another at a remote location (at my in-laws). The two networks are linked using a VPN (currently testing ZeroTier and Tailscale).

(1) The remote HDHomerun device can be added as a source tuner in the Channels for HDHomerun app and the list of channels is loaded successfully, however, streaming a channel is 'choppy' and my neterr under stats sits above 50%. Is there currently any guidance on getting a setup like mine to work with the app?

(2) I like the interface of Channels for HDHomerun and would love to watch both my HDHomerun (local and remote one) devices with it.
That is why I asked if .m3u files could be used, as if I first bring the remote HDHR through TVHeadend then there is no choppiness, which I assume is because it is streaming udp. I can pull a .m3u file from my local TVHeadend and watch it on VLC for example.
