Why are SD recordings being made when HD is available?

I've created a few passes for shows that are on both HD and SD channels, and the SD ones are being recorded even when an HD recording already exists.

I'm in the Seattle area and I'm using three sources in this order: (1) Xfinity cable via HDHR Prime; (2) Xfinity over TVE, (3) HD Quattro (OTA).

The show is a Latino series on Galavision. The HDHR Prime has Gala on two channels - 727 (HD) and 728 (SD), while TVE has a Gala HD channel on 6302.

I was seeing the show recording from 728 (SD), so I changed the Pass to only record from 6302, which worked. However, this show is also on 727 (HD) as well in a different time slot, so I added it to the Pass channel filter in the form of "6302, 727", but the Pass is now recording from 728 (SD) again.

What is the right way to handle this so only HD sources are recorded for such a show?

That is not valid. You can use advanced rules instead with multiple CONTAINS. You could also add Tags==HDTV under advanced

As for why it would be recording SD, I'm not sure. It would either mean it's tagged incorrectly as HD in the guide data, or the programs are airing on the SD channel at an earlier time

I blocked all of my SD channels and the server level. They are pretty much all available in HD via my HDHR prime and/or TVE. I don't even want to see them listed. There's no point. They just add clutter when browsing. And blocking them would prevent your DVR from picking them up.

When you say you block them at the "server level" - is that done by simply selecting the strikeout circle next to the channel in lineup management?

Yes, this hides them, making Channels DVR Server ignore them.

Sorry to resurrect a topic but I've got this same problem now on a DVR I set up for my parents.

They receive both SD and HD versions of channels through Comcast. Channels will record BOTH at the same time consuming two of three tuners in the Prime I set them up with. This results in a suboptimal experience when they run out of tuners because Channels is "wasting" one recording the SD version of the same program it's already recording in HD.

Please tell me there is a way to solve this other than hiding all of the SD channels in the guide. Trying to add a "Tags == HDTV" wipes out the "Tags == New" so that's not a solution, either. (And it shouldn't require manually editing every pass to fix) It should "just work."

did you try this ...

Conditions
Tags CONTAINS HDTV
Tags CONTAINS New

Are you sure they're the exact same thing (same season & episode) airing on both channels?
If so, that's a bug nobody has yet reported.
Could be the guide data has generic info for them and can't tell they're the same.

Channels DVR will not record a program more than once and prefers favorited channels then HD channels then SD channels when looking for a program airing that appears at the same time (i.e. both start at 8:00pm on different channels).

They certainly look like the same thing.

Tonight it was “My Son Didn’t Do It” on the Lifetime Movie Network. On our local Comcast the SD channel is at 119 and the HD channel is at 895 (zip code 16801).

I have not seen this happen on my install. I’ve been using Channels since it first came out. My parents install is new as of about two weeks ago and is running 2023.08.07.2138. I’ve seen this more than a few times on their install.

That's a Movie.
How did you schedule it to record?

I will have to ask.

They’ve been set up with the TV interface and Android app on a tablet.

That particular movie has a unique id (tmsId=MV020484700000) so Channels DVR knows if it already recorded it and you would have to manually pick it to record again.

I’ve attached a screen shot showing an upcoming movie that appears to be doing the same thing.

Other scheduled recordings look fine.

Is that the view of scheduled recordings?
Trying clicking the Queued dropdown on each and see what's showing in the dropdown.

Tapping the Queued dropdown reveals a menu offering Delete and Edit. Choosing Edit only offers the choice to edit padding.

That means someone manually selected them to record.

I think the easiest fix is to do what I and others do.
Disable (hide) the SD channels that are dups of the HD channels.
I do that for my Xfinity cable using an HDHR Prime tuner.
Like so

and since Xfinity dups some channels again in the 1000 channels, I disable those dups also
