Wife Complaint - Recording Not Available to Watch During Recording

MY wife watches the Today show religiously. She doesn't start watching tight away because has to get the kids up and a few other things. Most days she can watch from the beginning, but on occasion, like this morning, it will only let her start watching the live stream.

She noticecs when she can watch from the beginning while still recording the show is red on the guide, but when she can only watch it live, it will be yellow Anywhere from 5-15 minutes later, the show will automagically show up in the library and/or recordings.

Is this a bug or do I have to tweak something in th esettings?

Server Version: 2021.05.26.1807
OS: Linux (8 Core Xeon, 32 GB RAM)
Client: Nvidia Shield

Thanks,

Jay

Might wanna give some info for the devs to work with like the server hardware and version, client hardware and app version, etc.

My best advise is to reproduce the problem then immediately upload your diagnostics and follow up with an email to [email protected] I watch exactly how your wife is watching (except not the Today Show - yuck) but have never seen the issue you describe. I to have a linux server. I'm on a newer version of the software but I doubt that is the issue. I don't use Nvidia Shield either. You may be unique, that's why you are going to get in the weeds with the diagnostics.

Yellow guide entries are candidates for recording; red entries are in-progress recordings. A program may have several "yellow" entries in the guide, as the same program may occur on multiple channels at the same time. (This is common with multiple PBS stations, cable/sports simulcasts, or if you get the same channel from 2 different sources.)

Selecting a "yellow" program from the guide won't play anything, because that would be a future program. Once the program starts, the "yellow" entries become normal, except for the one representing the actual program on the channel that is recording, and that guide entry turns red. You can select a "red" entry in the guide for playback; you will be usually offered the choice if you wish to watch the recording or watch live.

(In short, "yellow" entries are future programs, with a one-to-many relationship; "red" entries are in-progress recordings, with a one-to-one relationship.)

I have both a cable (ch 508) and air channel (ch 8.1) in the guide, I looked at both and they were both yellow (I don't have the channels stacked). I checked the logs, albeit after it had recorded, but it shows it recorded channel 508 and I verified it was still yellow this morning when I was trying to trouble shoot for her. I'll have to recall how to submit diagnostics (from client or server)?

Maybe I'm confused, but how could something that is in the past still be anything, much less yellow, when the guide does not show past programming?

When my wife was complaining she couldn't start from the beginning of the recording but could only watch live, I backed out and went to the guide to check both 8.1 and 508 channels, both were yellow even though it was recording (just not showing on guide or in dvr library yet).

I've seen this on our ATVs. Or something like it. A program that should have been recording, but it was neither high-lighted red, nor were we presented with "This is being recorded..." requestor. We'd go to the Library and, sure enough, there it would be. We'd check our tablets and it would be shown as recording in both "On Now" and in the guide.

I think the last time it happened, we started watching the recording from the Library entry, I bailed-out, went back on "On Now," and it was now shown as recording? (Not 100% certain.)

I've been meaning to bug-report it, but kept forgetting.

I don't recall seeing yellow high-lighting when that's happened, though. But I've never checked the guide when it's happened, either. I'll look next time we see it.

This happens on my Nvidia Shield and the solution is to completely exit out of the app and get back in. Sometimes you need to force stop the app and restart it that way.

It seems to me as if the app doesn't "refresh" unless you do this sometimes.

One way around this would be to start The Today Show from Up Next rather than from the guide.

When this happens, I double click the O on the remote to bring up the recent apps, kill channels dvr and relaunch it, you'll get the 'preparing your tv" like you haven't had it open recently (you killed it from memory), and the guide will be up-to-date (reflect correct recording status).

Also, longpress back can be remapped to kill the foreground app with button mapper but killing it from recents seems to do better
