Will connecting to home DVR from public wifi invite security issues?

I’m planning to bring my Fire TV Stick to an overseas trip and connect to the home DVR from the hotel.

Assuing that the hotel wifi will be a public one, will this invite security issues?

Is there any chance that bad actors on the same hotel wifi will be able to figure out my home IP address as well as the fact the port 8089 is open?

The DVR uses SSL for its connections so you should be fine.

SSL doesn't hide the public IP or port though. The hotel is running a public WiFi management system on a server somewhere. That server probably has logs of all the websites that you have visited, bandwidth used, guest history, etc. All the IPs and ports are there too, surely.

Personally, I don't worry about it.... I use the hotel WiFi all the time, and often bring my AppleTV to connect to Channels DVR. I am not doing anything illegal. But just know that your use of the hotel WiFi is certainly available to someone with access.
