Windows Run at login VS Service

ChannelsDVR at login vs service ....

  1. When running at login and you try and restart the PC it will stop you if the DVR is busy service does not.

  2. When running at login you can fix Flow Control from the Webserver ... Running as a service you cannot you have to go to ethernet properties on the PC.

  3. The service does have advantages as auto restart after failure.

  4. No need to login to pc when running as a service.

  5. Service has to be setup to login as a user to access SMB Shares ... Autologin does not.

Just observations so you can choose preferred way.

For 5, the user's login needs access to the SMB share. So it's similar. You are pointing out a weakens in the service install as it does not ask what user to use and many may not know they need to address this.

Re:

I'm sure I will never run it on Windows, but what does this mean?

you can fix Flow Control from the Webserver

Is that a Troubleshooting Fix available for users running it on Windows?
If so, what does it change?

Network adapters and switch ports can run with or without hardware flow control. The default is to use hardware flow control for windows and most switches. The channels developers have seen issues when hardware flow control is enabled so they recommend turning it off and during the start up wizard do this for the user. There code is not perfect and can fail when an Windows 11 computer has multiple NICs. This is rather confusing, even for experienced windows administrators as you wind up in a loop, even when you manually disable hardware flow control. Note that a computer with a RJ45 NIC and a WiFi NIC has to interfaces, a very common configuration.
