Would like option to set particular subtitle track on imports

  • Option to set a different subtitle track as default for imported files that have multiple choices

As the subject states, I would like a choice per show to pick and set a particular subtitle track (other than default #1) permanently for a show.

Say I import a particular tv show, and the episodes have multiple subtitle tracks in different languages, BUT, English isn't the first one (which Channels would pick if turned on) Say track 3 is English. I'd LOVE a setting in the web admin (or even on the client settings) to PICK a particular subtitle TRACK and have it stick for every episode of that show.

Would that be possible?

While not the answer you want to hear, there is a way to achieve this. You can remux the files in question to either re-order the subtitle tracks or mark your preferred track as the default. This would require extra work, but if the container type remains the same (MP4/MKV), then you can put the file in place of the old one, and there is no need to rescan/re-import the files.

(Until a convenient method is offered via the UI to achieve what you are asking for, I offer this as a solution available "right now".)

(Another benefit to remuxing, you can mark a particular subtitle track as forced, meaning it will automatically use that track without you having to select it. This is particularly useful for movies in your native language, but where there are sections in a foreign language; it will automatically display the subtitles for those non-native sections. I know other systems, like Kodi and Plex allow you to use sidecar files—*.en.forced.srt, for example—but I never had any luck with that method under Channels; remuxing fixed that problem.)
