At present, my non-Gracenote FAST channels are only automatically updated when the Gracenote channels are (once daily), despite their source's setting supposedly refreshing the guide data hourly. Is there something I can do to get the refresher working again? I've tried changing the rate to every 2 or 3 hours, but that still doesn't work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You need to set EVERY source using XMLTV to refresh hourly, or at the same intervals.
Although Channels lets you set them to different intervals, it doesn't work.
It appears there's only one timer for all XMLTV sources, and it gets reset when one source refreshes.
You can verify when they refresh by looking at the DVR log.

I only have the one source using XMLTV; my other sources all just use Gracenote. As for the log, it confirms that my guide data isn't refreshing when it should:

I did have some earlier drafts of my sources while setting things up, though. Could the "ghosts" (for lack of a better word) of since-deleted sources be keeping my current XMLTV source from updating?
Yes. There seems to be things leftover (I call them cruft).
Recreate the source using a slightly different name and see if it works.
I've recreated the source using a new name, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything on the guide updating front:

Try changing the hostname localhost to the actual IP address of the device hosting your FastChannels container. I assume you're using FastChannels.
How many channels are in that m3u?
I am indeed using FastChannels, and the XML M3U is 174 channels. I've switched the hostname to the IP address of my device, and after waiting a few hours to see if the guide data would refresh, still no luck.

I don't know what to say.
If you didn't get any errors when changing the source settings and no errors in the DVR log.
Is that the complete DVR log for the last hour?
It should have fetched guide data when you changed the settings and saved ![]()
Here is the complete DVR log, including the refresh from the URL change.
It did fetch the guide data when I saved the change, but outside of manual refreshes like those, it doesn't fetch the guide data when it's scheduled to do so.
Yah, it should have refreshed again at 23:27.
I would submit DVR Diagnostics.
How do I do that?
Got it. Thanks so much for the help here! Hopefully I can get a solution via the support email.
Well, the Channels Support team let me know that the issue was not with the DVR, but with the Custom Channels, which meant they couldn't provide help beyond that, for obvious reasons. I took a look at FastChannels, and eventually was able to get the guide updates working again! Turns out I needed to:
- Set my FastChannels Server URL to my actual IP address (as the webpage says to do if you're using localhost)
- Create a new feed that keeps both my Gracenote and XMLTV channels in one place, then add it to Channels using the Add to Channels DVR button.
It seems I ought to read instructions better!
Bless them! every one of them!
lol, glad you figured it out. That fair localhost is a siren what’ll steer yer ship straight onto the rocks
