Yearly Subsription or Lifetime (Plex has a Grid Guide)

Now that you guys are out of DVR Beta will you offer yearly rate thats a bit cheaper? Like $8 month or $75 a year.
I know your software is amazing but I have several friends who will not switch over because SD is $35 a year and plex is $120 lifetime.

Thanks

I’d gladly take a $200 lifetime sub if it was offered to beta participants

Count me in for $200 as well! Yes, I’m assuming this will be around in > 2 years, but sometimes I just like paying upfront for services.

I’m also interested in this. I already have a lifetime Plex Pass, but I could jump on this kind of offer right now. But who knows where Plex will be in 6 or 12 months…

I really hope the Channels devs are considering something because plex just announded they are coming out with a Grid Guide soon-ish.

For me Channels has the better UI, I would prefer to stay with them. But its hard to pass up $120 lifetime. And this is what competition is all about.

From the Plex Forum
At long last.. I have an update to share regarding the much requested grid view!
Grid-style EPG is something we all wanted, customers, employees, lab rats, everyone. It's not the only way to browse content on TV, but it is a familiar approach we have come to know over decades of cable and satellite box use. So why don't we have it yet? I'll get right to it.
Is Plex going to implement a grid view?

YES, we are planning to add a grid view! More than just planning, we expect it sometime in the next few months, before the end of the year (can't provide an exact date). That is our hope, though not guaranteed.
What's taken so long?

Grid view was covered by many patents and initially was shelved due to legal concerns. Thanks to feedback from users (and even employees), the point came where we had to figure a way to do this. I'm thrilled to write that we are now working on it!
Stay tuned!

I too would like to add my +1 to this request. $96 a year for Channels DVR is a bit much to justify, given that some of us got onto the Plex Pass bandwagon when it was ~ $70 for lifetime sub.

Now with grid support coming in Plex, it will be hard justifying $8/m for Channels DVR to the wife. A one time lifetime sub cost on the other hand, one could finagle  .

Assuming plex can get the UI and grid right, it will be extremely compelling to have TV and all my media content in one place.

My experience with Plex DVR (file manager/playback) over the last year has been mediocre at best.

Found that playback of mpeg2 files results in stalls, spinner etc. when trying to ffd/rew (through commercials) unless one has a tremendously high powered server. I’ve tried with an iMac i-7, Shield and Qnap 251A. None are acceptable as Plex only utilizes the CPU of the server…doesn’t leverage capability of clients and worse Plex doesn’t efficiently utilize HW capabilities for transcoding of mpegts files from the server nor have they instituted an effective server transcoder for these files.

This is despite numerous posts on the Plex forums. Hoping that Plex might have made improvements in the past several months, I did opt in for a lifetime sub (discounted) last month. After 3 weeks of again trying to utilize I requested a refund (which was issued).

The only reason to add Plex (for me) was to utilize as a media manager…I do have mpeg2 files from a variety of sources. As Channels is not intended as a media manager I wasn’t able to add these files to the Channels DB. I needed a playback solution for all of these files. Hoping to replace the other mpeg2 files with Channels recordings, as Plex wasn’t the solution, neither as a DVR nor media manager.

Channels for me is the best DVR solution. Playback is flawless, comm skip is innovative and works great (not available on any other solution), advanced pass set up is excellent (again not available in others), scheduling (conflict resolution) is the easiest and many other features make Channels well worth the monthly cost.

YMMV, however Channels is also the very best for my non technical family. I almost never have to intervene, all are able to use without guidance. Never hear complaints. Stability has been rock solid for over a year. Priceless!
