So YTTV just announced that it has a 4k add-on option plus 5.1 sound. You will get channels like Discovery 4k and a couple of others. Does anyone know whether or not TVE would work with the 4k channels? My hunch is that you would just get the standard Discovery channel and would have to use the YTTV app to watch/record any 4k content. it would suck having to use YTTV for some channels and not be able to be unified under one Channels UI
That is for streams from within the YouTube/YouTubeTV app. Using your YTTV credentials with Channels' TV Everywhere support is completely different. Channels does not access YouTubeTV streams directly, it merely uses your credentials to stream directly from the networks' own websites.
right, I know that. I guess what I am wondering is if there is a 4k TVE feed that being a subscriber of YTTV 4k TV plus will give you access to...
I suppose that depends upon if any network offers a 4K TV Everywhere stream. To my knowledge, no network offers this, only their 1080p (or in some cases, 720p) content with a single track of stereo audio.
The stream comes from https://go.discovery.com/watch/discovery. If there's a 4K stream there, then it will work.
Some articles on this topic also mention 5.1 audio - any chance the 5.1 is coming to the regular 1080/720 YTTV channels (this is unclear) ??
Again, it's doubtful. But, that's up to the networks, as they decide which streams they publish on their websites.
YTTV getting 5.1 has nothing to do with Channels.
You're right - I guess it's the TV Everywhere stream that would need 5.1 for channels to get it, which would be ideal, but, at this point I would be happy if YTTV had it at least via their app - I just switched from DRM free cable tv where all channels of interest were 5.1 with good PQ
According to Reddit PQ has been poor lately on YTTV. I'm with Spectrum choice and am completing moving to YTTV since they have added Turner TVE and supposedly adding 5.1. Really don't see any value in adding 4k yet especially for $20 or $10 for the first year.
