Got the official email tonight from YouTube TV
It's the dumbest negotiating tactic. Sometimes (a LOT of the times) I hate capitalism.
And here I thought I was wasting money continuing to pay for Xfinity while trying out YouTube TV these last few months. Rough timing since I have a bunch of College Football games on ESPN TVE scheduled to record this weekend.
I downgraded my Xfinity to try YouTube TV. No ESPN for me now.
That really sucks! That's one of the reasons I gambled and kept spending the big bucks for Xfinity even after being on YouTube TV since June. I was really close to cancelling Xfinity but wanted to keep supporting the CableCARDs in my 2 TiVos and my HDHomeRun Prime. I feel fortunate that when I tuned into ESPN TVE just now - after YouTube TV failed to authenticate Channels automatically attempted to connect via Comcast and was successful. The growing pains of converting to streaming is looking a little less smooth right now.
If you have a solution that works great, probably best to use it.
If you really need ESPN, can't you get a Sling Day, Weekend, Week pass fairly cheap. You may not be able to use Channels with it, and maybe there are other downsides. Don't know, I don't watch sports much.
Me either, but I also lost ABC and NatGeo there.
I still get the basic channels with my Xfinity sub though.
I considering how I can stay on youtubetv but add ESPN channels back to channels. Options include Sling Orange $46/month or less with day or week pass but not all ESPN channels and Plus.ESPN.com $30/month. Obviously I can add Sling as a provider to channels. It appears that EplusTV will not integrate a standalone ESPN Plus account to provide recording and viewing of all ESPN channels.
Since I have Spectrum Internet service it appears I can add just ESPN Plus to my service, but I have no idea if this would allow me at add Spectrum as a provider to channels and have the ESPN stations available. I’m reluctant to touch adding TV to Spectrum Internet service because of unknown ramifications.
I get 2 OTA ABC stations so my goal is cheap and easy ESPN. I’d welcome any advice about options I may not have considered or if I’m wrong in believing EplusTV won’t work with a standalone ESPN account.
Sling works very well with the ADBTuner project to watch in Channels. (I don't think it works in TVE, but someone can prove me wrong) You just need an HDMI encoder (like a LinkPi) and at least one streaming device (like an Onn4k box). And a Channels server that can run Docker.
I do run 2 ADBTuner so Sling is better than nothing. I'm still hoping to find a way to use ESPN Plus which is cheaper and includes more stations if the impasse isn't settled soon.
Just claimed my $20 YTTV account credit
