This is a setting from what I remember. I do record news blocks, but as individual recordings, and don't remember more than one tuner activating. I would need to test to make sure.
I went ahead and changed the pass to have 10sec padding both start/stop, we'll see
Thanks so much for sharing your channel list. How would I go about determining or finding the URLs for the local channels in Houston? I've searched around and can't find them posted anywhere.
That works, thanks again!
Hi All! I'm hoping that one of you may have the DirecTV deeplink info including proper Gracenote ID for KNBC 4 Los Angeles. A full Los Angeles Directv channel list JSON would be even better! Please!
There is a method to grab them.
You can also manually inspect in browser if you only need a few. I do so in Firefox.
- Go to https://stream.directv.com/guide
- Inspect the Page (Browser setting, normally right click on page).
- Go to the NETWORK tab of the Inspection Menu
- Sort or Search for the GET (Method) for something starting with allchannels?sort... (under File column). Select it.
- On the right side, you will see a second menu with top tops (Headers, Cookies, Request, Response...). Select Response.
- Under the JSON list, you will a value for channelInfoList. Select the arrow to the left to expand.
- All (most) the channels in your guide will be displayed. Export, Record, Copy whatever info you need.
See the link thread above for info on what each value means and how to build your URL strings.
Good luck!
EDIT: Forgot to reply, so throwing manual ping @jsfullam
I heard Direct TV Stream didn't work well in ADBTuner because the app had to be killed over and over again. Is there a way to send adb commands over a custom configuration now to kill the DirecTV Stream app prior to tuning? I mean, I use YouTube TV and Philo, but I am curious just for future reference if I ever end up switching.
Thank you very much. I have repeatedly tried (and failed) to grab the entire list using the method described in the post you referenced.
If I am using Windows, I have the choice of copy as curl (cmd) or copy as curl (bash). There are also "copy all listed as curl" choices. I don't know which is correct.
Once copied, I don't know what to do with the info. There is a comment (below) which mentions pasting it into a terminal and creating a json output file. I'm totally lost here. What terminal program do I paste into, and where do I insert the output flag? @bnhf and @kyl416 seem to know what they're talking about. Unfortunately, I am struggling to understand.
I'll try your steps 1-7 and see how far I get in seeking the info for a couple channels.
I actually used Claude Code inside Visual Studio Code to build out the JSON files I used for YouTube TV and Philo.
You could feed it a list of deep links and the actual format you need by creating one or two channels in ADB Tuner. You could use Claude or something similar to build out the rest of the JSON for you.
Thanks! That sounds like a really good idea conveyed in a completely foreign language. I still don't know exactly what a JSON is or what one does. To date, I have managed to import and use JSON files which have been created by other helpful folks. I have never generated one myself. So, this is all new territory for me.
I'm trying to prove that this old dog can still learn a few new tricks. I'll start by Googling "Claude Code" to see if that's the name of the whiz-kid down the street.
The nice thing about it is once you set it up you can do it all in natural language.
I would start by watching maybe a few YouTube videos. But the great thing is you can talk to it like a human, tell it you don't know what a JSON file is and ask it to work with you. The latest models have gotten really, really good, so honestly you could probably build it out with a little bit of work over the weekend.
Honestly, if you wanted to, you don't even need Claude code, you can probably just do it in the browser. Try exporting the JSON from ADBTuner with a few channels already created.
Paste that into claude.ai, and give it your curl output from DirecTV and see if it'll build a JSON file for you. It likely will with the right prompting. It takes some trial and error, but it's certainly easier than doing it manually.
The trick is making sure that you have some sort of array with the name of the channel and the deep link that way the AI model knows how to match the channel up to the deep link.
I don't use DirecTV, but if you want to just give me a dump of the output that you got, I can try to see if I can make something. What I really need to know is what link matches up to what channel. If the output includes that, it'll make it super easy and I can probably just craft something quickly for you.
I'm not sure if it'll work with ADBTuner because I don't know how well deep linking works with DirecTV. You might need some sort of custom configuration to kill the app over ADB prior to tuning, and I'm not sure if someone's made that already.
I'm kind of bored today, so I really don't mind doing this, just not sure if tuning will work...
Edit: I also wrote a script for Windows PCs to look up Gracenote IDs. It's obviously not the definitive way to do it, and I'm sure someone has a better way, but it works for me.
If you use my manual steps, you don't need to do any exports. It's all done in browser. Not the best for pulling and sorting hundreds of channels, but for a few, you don't need any extra tools other than FireFox.
Wow! That's awfully cool of you to offer to help. I really appreciate it.
I reached out in this ADBT forum since I remember seeing the previous discussion of creating JSON files for DirecTV and YouTube TV.
I do also know that I never got ADBTuner working well for DirecTV. I don't have the Osprey boxes everyone recommends. I just have some older Onn 4k tuners which we never got running smoothly. I ended up jumping over to the Roku Tuner Bridge project which works quite well with my DirecTV subscription. I think that ADBT has made some progress with DTV and the Onn tuners. So, I thought that I would re-visit things here.
Even if it turns out that ADBT and Onn still don't play well together, finding the correct deeplinks and Gracenote channel ID's will help me out with building my Roku Bridge lineup.
As always, I appreciate any help I can get. And, I will try to pass along the favor to someone else who may be as confused as I am.
If you want to give me the output from Firefox, I can try to make something that can import into ADBTuner, or at least attempt for the benefit of the community. I would need a copy of that channelInfoList JSON @spammedeeper mentioned.
I have a whole load of confirmed Gracenote IDs for YouTube TV, so I could probably use those for most of the channels, honestly, so it wouldn't be too hard to put something together.
Oh, I was saying that if @jsfullam gave me the output from the DirecTV Guide, I could try to create an importable JSON file to automate.
I use DirecTV Stream, have it running in both ADBTuner and AH4C. The DirecTV app works pretty well in both. I use a custom config in ADBT to fresh start the app every time I tune with a deep link. I'm sure I've shared results somewhere.
The most reliable tuning with DirecTV has been with their Osprey Hardware boxes. They have consistent performance. For ADBTuner, you don't have to worry about running the DTV app as the whole interface/launcher IS the app. You just send it a link and it opens, rather quickly.
Another advantage of the Osprey Boxes is they support channel input. If the Deep Links ever stop working, or start changing regularly needing deep link URL updates, I will fall back to my previous setup in AH4C to tune by channel. The channel numbers, which have been around for years, will not change. This setup is slower as the input takes longer, but is simple and very reliable. I ran it for a few years (and still do in my backup setup).
Some small notes on the Ospreys. They are a fantastic fit if you want to automate tuning of DTV channels. The have Ethernet and are cheap on eBay. That said, they are not well suited for anything else as any downloaded application performance is pretty slow compared to the $30 Onn 4K Plus. And, who knows how long DirecTV will support them. But they just work, I don't have to mess with them much.
For anyone considering DirecTV Stream, especially the interesting Genre Packs, feel free to ping me in this thread, happy to assist.
I looked into AH4C and just couldn't get it working on Unraid, although then I realized I needed to use Portainer, so I probably could get it working now. I just didn't see the advantage for my setup, given that ADB tuner worked so well with Philo and YouTube TV.
Regardless, I've made a couple of JSONs already for YouTube TV and Philo, so I'd be happy to make one for DirecTV with the current DeepLinks, if they work. It looks like if you tune with compatibility mode on, at least with the current ADBTuner Beta, it'll kill the app prior to launching it. That should hopefully get DirecTV Stream to maybe work with a regular Android TV box, I would imagine. But I'm not 100% sure because I'm not a subscriber.
Honestly, it's probably better to try to find a way to get the deep links to work, especially if they don't change frequently. Because those Osprey boxes, although if they work well, still have to be getting pretty old and will eventually fail just for long term compatibility sake since $20 GTV boxes are plentiful at Walmart.
Edit: I just re-read your post, I'm very curious how your custom config works.
I don't plan on switching anytime soon, but I'm curious how you made the custom config!
I was able to follow your very clear step by step process using my Chrome browser. I managed to get the info for the specific channel I was looking for. (KNBC 4 Los Angeles)
The DirecTV genre Packs are exactly why I made the jump from YTTV to DTV. The MyEntertainment pack coupled with the MyCinema add on fit my need well at half the price of YTTV. The Roku Bridge project does work well for this. But, I'd like to bring my Onn boxes back into the picture with ADBTuner. Right now, they are only being used for a Peacock channel or two...
I have Unraid and run AH4C in Docker, have been for a few years. If you swing back to AH4C, ping me, I can assist.
Here is my ADBT Config for my Onn 4K boxes and DirecTV App

You may notice the "Recording" part of the title. This is unique to my setup. My Osprey boxes do all the heavy lifting. I also heavily utilize ADBT Playlists (per App M3U) to have unique tuner priority in Channels. My setup is as such pretty much follows:
- ADBTuner - DirecTV with Osprey - All Channels - Fastest tuning for live TV Watching (and the amazing MutliView setup).
- ADBTuner - DirecTV App on Onn 4K Plus - All Channels - Mainly for recording as tuning takes a touch longer.
- ADBTuner - Unique Playlists for Onn 4K Plus - Many playlists to give priority to live news and sports channels per their unique android app, sorted in Channels DVR tuner priority. Mainly for recording.
- AH4C - DirecTV with Osprey - All Channels - When all other tuners fail, this one works
And one last thing. I did "make" the custom config in ADBT, but the real magic is all the work put in by @turtletank and his commitment to this community. In the spirit of the holiday, a sincere thank you for all you've done to make this amazing project.
