Leave your current setup as is and then do like @Edwin_Perez suggests, run docker for all of the other Channels video sources.
for me i wouldnt use a 14 year old laptop but it will probably work.

I appreciate what you guys are doing, but for now I think I'm just going to have to wait until the Channels DVR developers get on top of this and add it to their own offering. That's where it belongs.
I'm afraid you'll be waiting a very long time. The whole purpose of Docker and third-party containers is to bring in additional proprietary content to complement what Channels provides. The developers have already stated they have no intention of integrating this into the product. Honestly, they don't need to since a clear path already exists.
That's truly unfortunate. 15 years ago we had a software that required a few clicks to load "plugins" to make extra features available. Now we have this. Humanity is moving backwards, unless the business is just trying to avoid new customers.
I spent some time researching docker, and from what my tiny mind could glean, it was specifically defined as a way for developers to deploy new software. I didn't find a lot of non-programmer user friendly information.
I've been using ADBTuner successfully for quite a while with either Onn TV 4K boxes or Nvidia Shields or both - I tried a FireTV 4K Max (Android 9) and it appears to set up successfully with ADBTuner - everything is green - but it doesn't tune the channel - are there issues with FireTV devices working with ADBTuner?
No problem with FireTV Devices and ADBTUNER I have 4 of them being used by ADBTUNER and this morning I was recording 4 Streams. Did you post logs so that they can be looked at ?
This is not the case for all software products. For example, Unraid incorporates the best/most popular community developed Docker containers into new releases. There are financial, copyright, open source, and resource implications. In other words, it's a busyness decision.
No, open source forks and addons are the way things work today and we gain from them.
Good to know - I'm at work now, so can't debug but one more thing - I am using an OTG ethernet adapter on seldom used FireTV 4K Max - so I am wondering if the same issue exists with ADB over ethernet like with the Onn TV 4K - BTW I can remote desktop back to home but can't find the log file - do you know where it is if using Docker Desktop for Windows (wsl)?
I am using the Amazon ethernet adapters.... but that should not make a difference because you said you connect to it ok. The ADBTUNER container log is where to look for problems.
It took me a while to find the log file: this appears to be the key problem:
{"log":"2025-01-04 15:17:38.591 - server - Tuner: Application (com.google.android.youtube.tvunplugged) is not installed. Exiting.\n","stream":"stdout","time":"2025-01-04T15:17:38.591594295Z"}
But the YTTV app IS installed - I have started it with the remote and even had to initially log in - any ideas on how to fix?
Are you sure that's the correct package name for Fire TV devices? They're often different.
You got it - looks like it's "com.amazon.firetv.youtube.tv" for the firetv - so I changed a single channel to test and it works - so here's the next question - how do I operate with a mix of FireTV and Nvidia Shield or Onn devices?
ah4c is my daily driver, but doesn't ADBTuner have a spot for an alternate package name in the WebUI?
You're right and I just saw that - it works with the amazon package name as the alternate - thanks to all for the help!
Clearly I am in the minority as a Windows user. I will step back and let the system deprecate itself.
You are just running an LTSC Version of Windows I run Windows Desktop on Windows 10 Pro and 11 with no problem.
I really don't believe that a user should be pushed into another operating environment just to use the software (and the developers have mentioned this in posts in this forum), but clearly that will become the case here at Channels DVR. With the advent of ATSC 3.0 DRM and TVE DRM, the only option (at least around here) is to adopt another environment, to just watch television. When will the developers simply serve their customers and roll this right into the software? Why do I have to beg a developer to do their job?
I also run the channels server on windows yet take advantage of other platforms. DRM has been around for decades and if you are using a tuner with cable card you are probably receiving some DRM encrypted channels yet others are blocked from being decoded. The new TV standard is experimental and not seeing uptake by TV manufacturers so I'd say it is failing. All of the open source add-ons for channels are also experimental and not needed for you to enjoy plenty of content.
