ADBTuner: A "channel tuning" application for networked Google TV / Android TV devices

I don't have time for that, and I would imagine that most users here also don't have time for it. Of course the developers know full well what will go sideways when ATSC and TVE are basically a non-starter. But who cares about a paying customer.

Just out of pure curiosity, are you THE Morris Altman?

I think that depends on which Morris Altman you call THE Morris Altman.

You have time, just not willing to investing time in for these things and that's fine.

Me and thousands of other CUSTOMERS.

Yet that has nothing to do with enjoying watching shows with channels DVR. Your issue is that you spend time on this forum where you are exposed to all this stough.

You're not thinking things through, you're just being stubborn, presumptuous, and entitled.

Many of the hacks you see here and in other similar threads are employing work-arounds and techniques which could possibly be illegal in some countries or at the least could draw a lot of unwanted attention from the big corporate media machines. Case in point: ADBTuner relies on HDMI encoder boxes with cracked HDCP implementations to be able to take the output from the "tuner" boxes and stream it. Here in the US the very act of removing copyright protection is illegal. But you expect Fancy Bits as a corporate entity to formally incorporate this into their product? Do you really think that is reasonable?

We're in a tit-for-tat war with the people who want to control when, how, where, and how often you see content. It's not always going to be easy and served up to you on a platter. This is a nerdy, technical battle and you've made it clear that this is not for you. Continuing to express your frustration here in this thread is not going to be productive.

All that guy does is come here and complain and moan. He acts like Channels is the only option. Just use your cable company's DVR if you want convience

Forgive me for asking this but I'm now experiencing issues with FireTV - after overnight timeout periods - (1) YTTV prompts for which user is logging in (Who's Watching?), which prevents the stream from starting (2) FireTVs seem to go to sleep and HDMI output goes offline - If I manually select a user on the YTTV startup screen, then the FireTV devices will work for a while - Onn and Nvidia devices don't have this problem - is there a workaround for this?

I’m pretty sure there is a setting in the YouTube TV app to turn off the Who’s Watching screen.

On the onn devices i enable screen on while charging. I think there is a adb command to make them stay awake for the firesticks.

There is also a still watching in the FireSticks that should be turned off.

Got everything working with the FireTV devices just like the Onn TV and Nvidia Shields - I did everything suggested above but sometimes ADBTuner would try a FireTV device and a timeout occurred and it would try a different tuner - after doing the following steps from the PC connected to the FireTV devices, the FireTV devices always stay on and I don't get a "NO SIGNAL" from the LinkPi: (IP address is just an example)

adb -s 192.168.5.100:5555 -e shell settings put secure sleep_timeout 0
adb -s 192.168.5.100:5555 -e shell settings put secure screen_off_timeout 2147460000

Just wanted to put this here in case someone else needs it:

I tried a brand new firestick when i first started working with adbtuner. I really thought adbtuner was unreliable tbh. Then i went to walmart and picked up an onn device and realized that the problems had nothing to do with adbtuner... u should give it a try.

I was running 3 x Onn TV 4K devices but when I tested them with TVs, I liked them so much that I moved them from the encoder pool to use at TV locations and took some Nvidia Shields out of service to replace them - I'm thinking of selling 3 Nvidia Shields on ebay as they appear to have some value, so now I'm trying to use some FireTV devices instead but you're right - if I encounter issues with the FireTV devices, like ADB authorization expiring? - I'll probably go out and buy some more $20 Onn Devices - only issue is that ADB doesn't work with a USB ethernet adapter with the Onn TV 4K (non-Pro) for the encoder pool

Remember the android devices do not support XFINITY Stream ... just make sure before you recommend ONN devices that they are not using XFINITY Stream. I have 5 firetv devices running XFINITY Stream with no problem.

Anything other than XFINITY Stream they can use ONN devices.

get the pros. also if you get a usb 3.0 to ethernet adapter they will run over 100Mbit

Dont know anything about DTV Stream but I had general reliability problems with ADBTuner and firesticks. Slow tuning, ignoring adb commands sometimes, etc.

Understand the only devices that XFINITY Stream work with are Firesticks and AppleTV. I know in the logs that ADBTUNERS does unnecessary steps when using XFINITY Stream.

Somewhat of an update - the ADTH viewer app is on the play store now

Looks like a Tolka rebranded app.

Nice! It looks like it's primarily for the upcoming USB dongle, but there are some references to using it with a "gateway" as well. I will definitely pick up one of the dongles when they are released.
