A message popped up on my Mac saying that Channels is trying to delete or update other apps. I clicked it and saw the below. Should I allow? Why does Channels need to do this?
Thanks, but it specifically says "other" apps, and note there are no others listed asking this kind of permission. Just a bit curious.
Yes, Apple's wording is unfortunate, but that permission is what's required for the CDVR server app to be able to update itself.
It doesn't touch any other apps.
This is similar to how apps like TeamViewer, Splashtop and AnyDesk now require "Screen Recording" permission in order to allow mere screen sharing. Bartender asks for the same, and it's a menubar organizer, it just "records" the screen in order to identify icons. I really hope Apple makes this more sensible as they clamp down with these new security precautions.
Bottom line, it's just how it is, and nothing to worry about. At least with these well-known apps
Hopefully Apple improves and clarifies this wording in a future update.
