Would removing channels help? The old Pre-DVR Channels launched fine with the same number of channels.
27 seconds to open the 2.1.7 with a 2009 Mac mini.
7 secs for me. Before DVR, it was a few seconds. I cut my 383 channels down to ~150 and didnāt seem much of a difference.
Core i3 3.1GHz with Ubuntu running off a USB flash drive. all wired ethernet.
A new Testflight Beta was just put out. For those on the beta, please give it a try and see if launch times have decreased. Here are my personal numbers:
BEFORE
Time to start: 7.395725s
AFTER
Time to start: 1.886984s
Before: 27s
After: 10s
For give me but how does one install this new version?
@maddox your times are so accurate. Not sure how you are testing. I am just counting 1000 1, 1000 2 etc
Mine is about 8 seconds for 2.1.7 and about 3.5 seconds for the New Beta.
But a strange thing happened when I first started testing. Both were coming up about the same 3.5 seconds at first when I installed the New Beta and test it first. Then after a few test I noticed the DVR Tabs were missing. Then I tried multiple times again until the DVR Tabs started showing again and that is when I saw the 8 seconds on the 2.1.7 version and the 3.5 on the Beta. So twice as fast with the DVR Tabs.
Also, I have noticed this before. For the 2.1.7 version I see the āloadingā screen when I swipe up instead of the normal current screen. This did not start with 2.1.7 but has been there I think since at least the App Store version got the DVR support. The New Beta does mot do this. When you swipe up you see the current screen. Seem like the loading is not complete on the 2.1.7 version. Confusing.
Very significant improvement.
Before 19 seconds
After 6 seconds
Still double the time before DVR. What kind of changes did you guys make if you donāt mind me asking?
Before: 10.53s
After: 4.14s
We have to translate the guide data from Channels DVR to what Channels expects, so that everything is normalized at the app level: DVR guide data, SiliconDust guide data, etc.
DVR data is a bit more involved. I just made the translations a bit more efficient.
The app tracks the time to launch and prints it to the log. Thatās how Iām getting the precision showing.
Got it.
Can that not be a scheduled job in the back end dB and only done on demand when necessary ? Curious to know how much is cached on the Apple TV too.
Down to 5 seconds after installing the latest version, much better but not as fast as it was before DVR.
Up to 10 seconds again after installing the latest update.
Previously, we werenāt loading recordings in at boot time. Weāve added that in to be able to play recordings from the Top Shelf. Without it, thereās no recording data locally to act on.
Iām seeing slower boot times too, but i thought maybe it was from adding a second Prime to my setup. Though itās almost assuredly both.
I have an idea to get another speed up.
Thanks!
Recordings in top shelf is not that important, i think, compared to slowdown in the app launch. I think optimal should be 5 seconds or faster. Maybe a splash screen too (channel app logo?) instead of lloading icon. But i would prefer faster loading time if possible.
I second the splash screen idea, it would be nicer than the loading icon.
Launch speed ok for me (5sec) but, DVR not loading.
Back to 10 seconds after installing 2.1.13
