If you bought from TiVo, you might want to reconsider. They don't cover shipping for returns, regardless of the reason.
Bought it from amazon. The free return is already setup and new one purchased. It will show up tomorrow and I will send back the new one. I have prime so I didn't have any shipping either way.
Okay well I bought and shipped to my family in the states.
No clue when I will see it though. Lol
i'm going to throw a partial vote towards the chromecast w/ google tv, IF you have a harmony remote to use with it. it has android 10 vs android 9 on the tivo (and since it's direct from google likely to get updates quicker), and the box overall feels a bit quicker than the ts4k...but it does not have the ability to do channel number inputs / direct button access to guide and DVR out of the box. that's where the harmony comes in.
after using both for a few days (CCGTV) and weeks (tivo), i'm going to pick up another CC for our main living room downstairs to match the one i have right now in the loft (both locations where i have a harmony hub), and then move the tivo to the master bedroom (and pick up two more tivos for our other bedrooms). that way, the two CCs can be used where the harmony allows them to operate as if they were a cable box replacement, and the tivos can do the same using the tivo remote in the bedrooms.
either way, definitely look up how to de-tivo and use alternate launchers on both. wolf launcher is so much faster than the default, ad-ridden launcher that they both come with.
I finally tried HDHRP and Channels DVR on a Tivo Stream and Fire stick 4k. Sharing our experience so far; this goes beyond just Channels, hope that's cool.
The Fire 4k is... not good. It's snappy enough when navigating Channels, but playback of recordings has some rough edges. In particular, if you do a series of 30 second skips, the video is choppy for a few moments when it returns (audio plays normally). Also, our LG tv and Denon receiver power up in about 8 seconds, and the Fire takes another 15 seconds after that to fully launch. Plus, the ads in the Fire home page are blah. It just feels slow.
Out of the box, the TS4k experience started poorly, but it improved quickly. At first the remote kept losing its connection. That went away after an update. I de-tivo'd the easy way and set up Channels with button remapping. After this, the buttons worked great except one time when guide pulled up a tivo guide. So I de-tivo'd the hard way, it's not really that hard.
Since then, the TS4k had been great. It doesn't have the issues the Fire 4k did. It's quick, it plays Channels well, the remote is familiar. The only problem so far is that the Channels guide sometimes gets stuck and stops responding. The easiest way to replicate that is to rapidly press ahead in the guide into the future. Pressing Guide again returns it to normal. Must be a bug I haven't read about here yet. We haven't paused live TV and seen how long it'll stay paused. Maybe we'll add some storage if it's not long enough.
I have 3 CCGTVs on order, they shipped before I could cancel. I'm debating whether to try one out or just stick with Tivos for our other TVs. It's nice to have a normal remote without having to spring for a Harmony.
Sorry this is so long, I hope it's useful for anyone on the fence.
Walmart finally shows TS4k in their regular store website, potentially even for same day pickup if in stock.

After all Firesticks, I'm curious to see the extra functions of the Tivo remote.
+1 On the Tivo 4k! I just purchased one a few days ago at local walmart I didn't know what I was missing. I did the de-tivo and installed wolf launcher it runs circles around the firestick 4k. Plus the remote works with channels dvr better than any satellite system. I also installed tinycam and have my driveway camera come up in a floating window when a car pulls in and closes the window after 45sec something I have always wanted.
Tried the Tivo and it really didn't show my wife any benefit. We have a pile of firesticks so back go the Tivos. They may be better, but not much better. And we had a lot more buffering with the Tivo. And the direct access to live TV crashed it. YMMV.
Didn't know that was possible. Found it over in the Tivocommunity forum. Looks like a good plan, thanks.
I tried to replace my FS4K with the TS4K but my experience was not great. I removed/disabled all the Tivo related apps and it ran Channels pretty good. However, the remote would hang up a lot and it would take about 5 seconds to recognize a button push. That happened a lot. The main thing that I could not stand was the TS4K forces everything into HDR. I have a 4K TV and this made the colors way off on anything I watch wether it was a 4K show or SDR show. The colors on the FS4K are a lot more accurate and it only switches to HDR when the show you are viewing is in HDR. This was the final straw for me. I ended up buying a Sofabaton remove and paired that with my FS4K. This has been working good so far.
A lot of the same problems with the Tivo 4K I have 2 that I retired and will get rid of soon. Also no Apple TV+ app on them also. I have the fire stick 4K and Insignia Fire TV 4K but I am moving to all Apple TV's. Actually 4 of them I found to be the fastest of the bunch. Today my Fire Cube is going back to Amazon.
Interesting, I had never heard of Wolf launcher until now. I like what I see. Does it also eliminate the need for a side load launcher app?
i'm not sure what happened here but that has not been my experience at all. is it possible you have something set up wrong somewhere?
what do you mean by a side load launcher app?
I played around with it for a full day before deciding to return it. I could deal with the remote issue where it would take about 5 seconds to react to my input, but the HDR color issue was just too much. After searching around on the Tivo Community forum, being stuck in HDR full time is a known issue with the TS4K. They've promised a fix for this but have yet to deliver. The sad thing is that when it's in HDR and you are watching 4K video, it doesn't even work properly. They acknowledge that as well. When I'm watching a 4K Youtube video and the TS4K was in HDR mode, the colors were so muted compared to my FS4K and the Youtube app on my Samsung TV. Hopefully, they will get the HDR issue fixed soon, but I can't use it the way it is now.
that's very strange, because i haven't seen that issue either (and i've had my TS4K for about a month now)...knock on wood, i guess.
Geez, if I ever get this. Maybe I will gift it for Christmas for somebody. Lol!
I use nvidia shield. What is wolf launcher and why would I want to use it?
Wolf Launcher lets you take control of your home screen and you can select the only apps that you want to be shown. There are no "suggestion ads" displayed all over the screen.
Apple tv is coming to Android tv. First to the Google TV chromecast and later to the rest of Android tv.
