I still feel strongly that the highlighted box should be highlighted for tvOS. It doesn't stand out within all the purple. I know the purple turns red when something is recording....
Lord, yes! Please!
This has been a longstanding issue on both tvOS and the Android devices. It is, and always has been, very difficult to tell where your are w/in any of "On Now," "Up Next" or "Recently Recorded". Make the currently-selected box pulse, outline it in white--or at least a brighter purple. Make it much larger when selected. Something. Anything.
I know ive posted this multiple times and it never even gets acknowledged... Maybe more need to post about it.
Agreed, and for the Fire TV app too: that box should be outlined, or change color, or something. I can't always tell when it's larger, and sometimes have to navigate left and right just to be sure.
Yes whatever work gets done with Apple TV will get added to FireTV and Android TV as Maddox has said and is in the OP.
I know that and apologize if I was unclear. Not the point of my reply, which was to support your request.
Gotchya...I just wanted to clarify if you didn't know. Thanks for supporting the change!
I support you guys! I struggle with knowing where the focus is at times. I agree that a little zoom or bounce effect would help. Or maybe an outline showing the item your currently on.
I’m going to throw my two cents in on another request while we’re discussing them. What do you guys think about the Apple TV Guide vs. the Android TV Guide? I personally like the Android Guid better - it allows the guide to stretch across the entire screen. I’ve mentioned it before but I feel the guide categories don’t need to be displayed as prominently as they are. I personally never change it from HD or Favorites. Pictures of both are attached below.
Agreed. But, still missing in Android (and iOS) is an indicator on the guide of the current time, to show current progress of an entry. (On the Apple TV, this is indicated by a small tick between the time and the guide.)
I also agree prefer the Android Guide.
I do like the Android guide better BUT, I don't like that you have to go up to the top to change what you see....i.e. favorites or HD only etc... But that's minor. Over all I do prefer Android.
I think the new nav is an opportunity to improve this. I am not a fan of having to repeatedly hit 'back'. I'd much prefer to (almost) always have access to the nav to allow me to get back 'home' much more quickly.
This is on purpose as you’re pushing into the hierarchy. This works the same as before when the main nav was the tab bar. Doing this forces you to go “back” otherwise the nav items are left deep into the hierarchy and it’s confusing when switching to them.
A separate comment regarding the nav: is the waterfall effect necessary, or just UI flair? Because I am not sure it really adds anything to the experience and feels to me to be unnecessary. In fact it kind of makes the nav display feel slower as a result.
The guide filling the screen on Android is nice... BUT I love being able to easily select categories, which is not nearly as simple with the Android UI
Here is how Windows Media Center was presented. It has a bump out categories menu that opens when you navigate to the left side of the guide, otherwise it’s hidden. Something like that would you a full screen guide but still easily allow you to select the categories.
It also had the option to enhance the guide with colors for each type of program (news, movies, sports, etc.). You can see a few of the colors in the screenshot below.
In the latest tvOS build, when you’re in settings/library there is no apparent way to get back to the main settings menu.
Edit: After exiting the app and re-launching, the menu button returned me to the main settings menu. I tried using the menu button numerous times when I originally posted and it always just took me to the side menu on the left.
On my iPad Pro, when I am done watching a recording, it just goes straight back to the enhanced view. It isn't giving me an option to delete the episode that I just watched. Is that normal?
The modal has always dismissed before playing on iOS.
Was that to me?
