All right fellow users all 10 of you however many it is I'm going to go ahead and start working on getting the app to install on top of the previous version so that your favorites and your whatever you set up doesn't get lost so you don't have to keep setting that up every time I'll let y'all know how it comes along
After trying to remember how to install (figured it out
), I must say, it is nice! Thanks for doing this. I really like the transparent playback bar.
Excellent, thanks.
Will this new beta install along side the standard stable release? Thanks.
At this very exact moment, I don't think I can answer that. In the past I've seen it work, and I've seen it not work. You could always just give it a shot. Don't remove the official one, it'll either install or it won't, and if it does or doesn't, your stuff will be intact.
I plan to work on this today, make it independent of the official app and get it to install over itself.
If you do try though, before I do, please let me know, it would be helpful info.
You've got a career in politics with all that double-talk

Upon further investigation, the answer is yes, no, and sort-of
First, lets start by reiterating that the current carbon is 103.6.116
They just updated the beta to 103.10.210 (never seen so many beta updates in my life, seems like everyday)
Play Store non-beta, stable version. It is possible to have this one and carbon installed at the same time
Play Store beta version (enroll in the beta program in the play store), version 103.10.210, it can also be installed alongside carbon. So that's the current beta and carbon both installed.
It is NOT possible to have carbon installed next to any installation that was initiated through the settings menu in the app.
To have both, the non-carbon one must originate from the Play Store
Short answer:
Stable + Carbon, Yes, the stable and carbon can coincide happily together
Current beta + Carbon, Enroll in the beta program in the play store and both can be installed, and the playstore beta will actually update itself.
I will work on being able to update carbon rather than reinstall it.
Seems like TestFlight on iOS updates the Channels beta about everyday. Given the pinned post looking for an Android Dev to help bringing it up to par with AppleTV, I'd expect pretty frequent updates going forward.
I've got just the guy to enhance those purples

My settings remain with the updates I make on the Metro Blue Theme. Maybe it's because I keep the same APK name and signature with each update.
From my testing, if you want to run both side by side, the APK name and signature need to be different. If you want to keep your settings, the APK name and signature need to match but then you cannot run both.
I gave up on updating to each beta release. I only update my theme when there is a major bug or feature release. I was running 102.7.6 for a while and just updated my theme to 103.10.210. Maybe a better approach would be to only modify the stable version, but then there would be a lot of features missing (PIP for example).
Best thing we can do is hope that someday there may be native support for themes or color options.
Yes, I do believe it has something to do with the signing, so I'm looking into creating my own keystore to sign it. So that it can just install over the previous one.
I have gotten this figured out now, and updated the download link with the new version.
Changes:
Updated to 103.10.210
Future updates will install as an update to the existing installation
It can be installed in conjunction with any Play Store version of the app, if you want the beta version, opt-in to the beta tester program in the app's description
Based on the newest version, do you have installation instructions on how to install this theme for android devices? I think I saw it somewhere before, but I am not sure if anything has changed in the process.
I download to flash drive. Put flash drive on OTG usb cable on device (Firestick 4K). Open ES File Explorer (older version, modified to never update). Click on file and install.
New version working great along side stable version that I use for a second instance of ChannelsDVR on different PC.
The wifi server in x-plore does the trick well, I use that for my chromecast, my shield I have mapped as network storage
I put these basic install instructions up top. Transferring files to stuff is like most anything else, there's no one way to do it, so I'm not going to get into anything detailed.
Updated again to Beta 103.10.2309
Remember, if you're running < 103.10.210, a reinstall is still necessary to begin using the new update process
Right, but now that it should save the settings, just overwrite when copying and the settings will remain? Just make sure the file name is the same?
there's no need for you to do anything with the name, just download the new version and install it. all of your settings, favorites, etc remain. so... all you'll really have to do from now is just download the new one and install it.
