Channels DVR Beta for HDHomeRun Premium TV

Not following which pencil to click. Is it the pencil next to the DVR:OTAxxxxx?

The time zone setting has been removed. It is not necessary

Dang. I wanted to get some AMC shows 3 hours earlier so I don’t have to wait up so late, but oh well.

SiliconDust sends you streams matching your location. We have no control over what stations your Premium TV subscription includes. The DVR only downloads guide data matching what you’re receiving.

Just record them…those AMC commercials are a nuisance. Comskip is your friend!

Still seeing stuttering on NIVIDIA Shield TV this afternoon. Various Premium TV live channels.

@justinbraun Can you try updating to the latest beta (v137) on your SHIELD to see if it helps. Use one of these links depending on the app you’re using:

Channels beta opt-in

Channels DVR beta opt-in

@tmm1 - We have the DVR service and DVR versions of the apps. We use Fire TV. We keep randomly getting the HDHomerun demo/commercial cutting in to our programming followed by a black screen and an app freeze. I can’t seem to figure out when or why it happens, but it’s happened on the same channels more than once, so it’s not just a one-time-per-channel demo commercial. Is there something I have to do to turn “off” the HDHomerun demo stuff that was recently rolled out? It’s causing problems and we have no interest in the service.

Use one of the betas above and you will see a new toggle in the Tuner Settings section of the app where you can disable the demo channels.

Thanks. Updated to the latest beta, and it stuttered about every 10-15 seconds for about the first 2-3 minutes. Sometimes it was a noticeable stutter, other times you’d see the channel info banner pop up, but you wouldn’t notice any skipping.

@justinbraun Thanks, that’s really useful feedback. Can you also go to the Player tab and click Submit Diagnostics > Video Player.

If you use the HDHomeRun app on your SHIELD, is there any similar stuttering issue?

In Channels app, if you pause the player for 5s and then resume does it make the stuttering go away completely?

Just submitted diagnostics. I didn’t have the HDHomeRun app loaded, but installed it to see what it did. Seems to play fine…I think it stuttered maybe once when I watched for about 5 minutes. What I did notice on the HDHomeRun app is that the audio was slightly ahead of the video. Seems a little odd…

Interesting. Are you seeing the same audio sync issue in their app on all the premium channels?

The issue we’re seeing is similar… the stream runs out of audio to play, so it has to buffer and wait for more to show up. This causes a stutter or buffering to kick in.

In Channels app, if you pause the player for 5s and then resume does it make the stuttering go away completely?

@dcburnquist Best way for now is to go to my.hdhomerun.com and click the star next to each of the demo channels (under Channel Lineup) to hide them.

Yes, the audio sync issue in the HDHomeRun app seems to be across all the channels that I tried.

Pausing for 5 seconds right off the bat seems to make the stuttering go away completely. No more channel banners popping up every 10-15 seconds.

Great. How short of a pause is needed to make it stable? Does pausing for one second work?

Looks like 1 second takes care of it. For context, what I did was go to the guide, select a channel, it starts playing and I wait for the channel banner to pop up for a 2nd time. I pause and then play right away. It keeps going at that point.

But that’s the thing - the problem isn’t with ‘demo channels’.

The demo channels are basically overlapping with our actual cable. For example, CNN is channel 1111 in our cable package and ever since the HDHR Premium service was released, we’ve been getting random HDHomerun commercials cutting in to CNN programming followed by the channel freezing up the entire app. It’s not as if we have another set of channels that we can just hide, it’s actually effecting our normal cable channels and treating them as if they’re some sort of hybrid cable/demo channel. It doesn’t seem to know the difference.

The problem is that HDHR Premium’s CNN is also 1111, and it’s a demo channel which is why it only plays for a couple minutes and then starts showing their demo reel.

If you hide all the demo channels on your HDHR via my.hdhomerun.com, and then restart the apps, they will no longer see those conflicting channels and won’t try to use them.

I see. So is there a list somewhere? Aside from you just telling me, I wasn’t aware of any way to know which numbers are occupied by HDHR Premium channels. Without knowing exact numbers, I have no idea what to hide.
