I get the same message when using the Roku app. Mainly use firestick but wanted to try Roku app.
it plays fine on the web player but from the roku this have been a constant issue. I can't figure it out.
here the log error
018/11/04 21:18:25 [ERR] Failed to start stream for ch505: Get http://ipaddress:5004/auto/v505?: dial tcp ipaddress:5004: connect: no route to host
this error happens when it's live tv, but for anything i recorded it works fine.
That means the DVR cannot connect to your hdhomerun. Is the IP correct?
the ip address matches the HDHome run. I not sure what the port suppose to be. I really don't understand how ports work with router and devices
So Roku can play recordings but on live tv it errors?
And web player can play both recordings and live tv?
Based on that error I would expect that all live tv (from web player or Roku) would fail. And new recordings would fail too, because it can't connect.
Port 5004 is what hdhomerun uses for video data.
i checked again and the ip address is different. The hdhome run has a new ip address and the channels DVR is looking for the old ip address it was on
is there a way i can make it look at the new HDHome run Ip address?
In the section where the hdhomeruns are shown, click the gear dropdown and select Scan Network.
I would recommend you add a static dhcp reservation to your router for your DVR and HDHR so the IPs don't change.
Do you know where i can find instructions on how to do that? i have a fios quantum gateway router?
btw thank you for help and quick response
Is this app still being worked on? Is there a way to connect it remotely to the Channels server? Right now it just says there's no DVR found on my home network (which is remote from the server), and when I scroll down to "Up Next" the app crashes.
No the Roku app is only a prototype and not under active development. It does not support remote access.
Just fired it up on my Roku Ultra (4660) and it's working for Live TV (both MPEG-2 and PTV H254) and recorded OTA (MPEG-2). Recorded HD-PTV (H264) fails on load with an error I can't read (off the screen at the bottom). I have Hardware 'disabled'. Did not use the 'Play on Roku' feature. Just fired it up from the page provided.
The Roku Ultra and most of the "New" Rokus do support MPEG-2 - might be noteworthy albeit inconvenient due to the sheer number of legacy Roku devices out there.
I came to see if Channels was supporting Roku now that they have MPEG2 support-- as far as older devices go I think apps can be excluded based on model and Channels would just need to advertise appropriately as "2015 models or newer", something like that anyway.
We tested the mpeg2 decoder on the Rokus and unfortunately it barely works. No deinterlacing and it can take up to 10s to play video. mpeg2 videos from the HDHR PRIME use special cable markers and do not play at all.
Got it, that is unfortunate. Thanks for the reply.
What about a DVR app that plays transcoded streams only, that is how the web ui works isn't it?
I still have the old app on my roku and that’s basically what I use it for. It even works with the TVE feature.
Can you still get this channels dvr beta Roku app? I have a Roku tv that I have to use an Apple TV on just for channels. I dumped TiVo for channels dvr.
I created a new account here just to add support for an official, full featured Roku app. I've used Tablo and I am currently running Plex, but Channels DVR seems the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, I have 5 Roku Ultra's and won't go through the expense of changing them all out just to be Channels compatible. Not only that, but the Roku is very user (and wife) friendly.
I currently stream MPEG-2 from Plex with a bitrate of 8Mbps - 12Mbps without any issue. The Roku ultra handles it just fine. The only semi issue I see is it takes a few extra seconds to initially buffer the MPEG-2 stream (5 seconds instead of 2 seconds).
Even if MPEG-2 wasn't officially supported with Roku's, I wouldn't mind transcoding to MPEG4 or HEVC H.265. Using MCEBuddy to create the automatic conversion is easy enough. I also find that using HEVC H.265 provides a stream with almost no noticeable loss in quality versus the MPEG-2 original stream. If I could maintain all the other functionality, a requirement to transcode to work with Roku wouldn't be a deal breaker.
You can put in a vote for me to add Roku support. If you do develop a full featured Roku app, you can count me in as a customer.
I bought the Channels monthly to test out w/ 3 Roku's. Currently, I do not see anything on my Roku's.
After setting up the DVR on my NAS without making too many changes, when I fire up the Channels app in Roku all I see is On Now, Up Next, Movies and nothing else on the screen.
I would love to see a guide of some sort.
