I only favorite the HD versions of the locals in HDHR - it helps clean up the guide. Not sure if it helps the decision making on the priority front.
Lets see what @tmm1 says. Will Channels automatically choose an HD Channel over an SD one to record from, or do I need to manually set favorites/set an HD Flag?
How does the DVR pick which tuner to use to make a recording?
On the Channels DVR Server web admin, you can adjust the priority of your tuners to set the order in which they will be used for recording.
The DVR will always prefer favorited and HD channels first when multiple channels are available to record the same program. If the first tuner in the DVRās list has a favorited channel, it will always be used for recording. If a matching HD channel is available on the first tuner, it will always be preferred for recording.
If no matching channel is on the first tuner, the same process is repeated for each subsequent tuner in the list.
Awesome! Thanks
Only a few of my channels don't show up. Guess the TA is needed for those. Can anyone tell me if I can leave the TA off/disconnected if not needed for a SDV channel, and the Prime will still work as it does now?
Yes you can. I would just disable those channels in the lineup
Here's a tip.
When you view the HDHR Channel lineup from its web UI add ?show=all to the end of the URL.
http://192.168.1.31/lineup.html?show=all
The channels with a line through them are the ones the Prime can't tune in.
So either you're not subscribed, or it needs the T/A to tune them.
Wow. Thanks for the tip. I didnāt know I could do/see that. Thereās some locals behind the TA. So Iāll need it to watch those. Or use Antenna.Whatās crazy the ones blocked out, even the ones that I would expect to show DRM, donāt. I guess those need a TA to even show DRM status.
Sometimes after activating a new cablecard install it can take up to a day for the DRM to show up.
They will.
The ones with lines through them can't be tuned by the Prime, so it doesn't know if they're DRM or not.
In my screen capture above, all the Starz channels are DRM, but the ones with lines through them aren't in my lineup and can't be tuned. Like 524.
I am hoping channels like NewsNation arenāt. I get it. Itās a ālocalā. Itās former WGN America. Spectrum themselves in the locals should not be DRM.
Id also like the news channels not DRMād too. But I have TVE ready if they do. If BBC WS News is one, Iām gonna be really mad. Since itās one of my small 15 choice channels. Thatās NOT on TVE.
Shouldnāt DRM be detected right away during scan? Is it possible channels I can watch/record now will become DRMād in a few days?
All I know is it has something to do with the cablecard and the headend.
Whenever I had a cablecard installed in a device (TV's, TiVo's, HDHR Prime, etc.) and had the Provider activate it, I was able to watch every channel, including those not in my sub, for anywhere from an hour to a day.
Time will tell. If none become DRM, do a lot of recording, quick
SiliconDust would be able to answer your question, but as long as you can watch the channel with VLC, Channels DVR web UI or a Channels client, it's not DRM protected.
Mine also only shows the channels I get without the flag set up for all. But no DRM yet.
I'm starting to wonder if DRM only applies if you can even tune to the channel in the first place? With a normal cable box, I could tune to HBO. But it would tell me to upgrade, that I'm not subscribed. Perhaps they don't DRM the a-la-carte package. Time will tell. It might also go DRM when I add the TA.
The Prime won't know if it's DRM until it can tune the channel during its scan.
Try watching the channels you think should have DRM and see if they play.
How do I do that? Those channels are Marked out. I ONLY see those I am subscribed to. I do have some marked out that I DO subscribe to. I am sure the TA is needed for those.
Oh. If they have a line though them you cannot play them because the Prime can't tune them.
Are you able to watch all your locals like you wanted?
Yep. Those, and all that I subscribe to in my A-La-Carte package. All that are not marked out (minus a few that need the TA), I subscribe to. There are NONE that show up (minus said above) that I get, or could upgrade to. They're just marked out fully. The TA might be what makes the DRM, don't know.
Just an FYI.
When you get the T/A (Tuning Adapter), hook its COAX cable to the output of a two way splitter.
INCOMING CABLE COAX to input of two-way splitter
One output of two-way splitter to HDHR Prime
Other output of two-way splitter to T/A (Tuning Adapter)
Then, of course, the USB cable from the T/A to the HDHR Prime.
