Critically Low on Storage

Channels is using 2625MB, Channels Beta(never used) 359MB
If I uninstall and reinstall the app it will be a couple of weeks before it runs out of space again.

Channels v4.7.1
Amazon AFTMM
FireTV 7.1.2 API/25

EDIT: Cleared data for now.

What FireTV do you have? ,... there is a setting to keep the buffer at the server for low storage devices... under playback > Streaming Quality > Original Quality Delivery .. Stream

It takes a little longer to tune but then you can have a large LiveTV buffer.

Then you can set server side as big as a 4 hour buffer ...

I have Original and Direct for Home streaming. Would clearing the cache on start/exit be a bad idea?

You’re just going to run into it again. That device just doesn’t have enough storage to begin with to support a good live tv buffer.

That’s why it was suggested you change the setting.

Hmmm, this really works. Maybe it should be the default on FireTV?

Fire Sticks are always underpowered and have low storage. I tend to run a task schedule that clears cache every week using adb.

Alternatively, you could just upgrade and use a FireTV Cube or a onn device or a shield

We always suggest that if you're invested in Channels, you should invest in the hardware to run it. It's always going to be a win.

what hardware should we invest in if not FireTV?

FireTV Cube has more space along with the shield and the onn devices

Even getting a NUC and installing LibreElec and the Channels addon will do

For the best Channels DVR experience and many other reasons, I'd say: AppleTV

Okay! I will consider that. I'm trying to avoid putting too much money into any switch. I know there are multiple versions available for resale. Are there any I should avoid? I have a 4k Firestick, do I need a 4K Apple TV?

You don't need to spend too much. Get an onn device or even more powerful device on the cheap...get a NUC and install LibreElec. I found some NUCs on ebay that are 50 bucks. They usually have more than enough storage to use for Channels.

AppleTVs are an expensive walled garden so I'm not a fan so getting something cheaper isn't bad

Just pick up the latest appletv and you wont be sorry. I am an android guy who said i would never have and apple device in my house. I should have given up that stupidity years ago. Best streaming device hands down....

Development of this software prioritizes towards iOS and tvOS, so all the latest and greatest features go to AppleTV users first and Android second.

There have been 3 gens of 4K AppleTV so far, and I'd say any one of them would be ideal for a Channels client. Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

Thanks for info! Is ONN device considered Android?

Yes

Thanks everyone who answered my questions. I'm picking up an ONN device from Walmart this evening for just $19.99. If it performs better than my Firestick 4K does (I have been having issues) I will keep it, if not, then and only then will I spend the money on an Apple device. I'm okay with being 2nd in line! Thanks, again!

If you are going with Onn I would get the pro. Its a little more money but well worth it for the extra memory and Ethernet port
