DVR server not working after Shield 9.0.0 update

After the release of HotFix #3 I decided to take a chance and allowed it to be installed on one of my Shields. I then transferred Channels DVR from my Media Server back to the updated Shield -- DVR storage is an un-adopted 1TB SSD. It has been running for quite few days now without issue -- as compared to 3-4 crashes per day previously. All recordings have been made and playback of recordings has been uneventful. So at least for me, it appears the problems have been resolved and I'm back to normal.

From here on out, I'll be very cautious about upgrading the Shield until I know it's safe.

I've been holding off. Is it safe to install 9.0.2 (just released publicly) without my wife throwing a book at me?

As I understand it, an official release just bundles together the HotFixes and has it all blessed by Google to be official. I don't see it on my Shields yet but I will probably allow it to upgrade my client Shields. As to the Shield Pro running Channels DVR Server under 9.0.1 + HotFix#3 -- NO. That has been running quite well since I transferred the DVR Server back to it and I'm inclined to leave well enough alone. I will not do any kind of Shield update on that unit until I read here that there are no issues with it and Channels DVR Server.

Edit:
Oh well, I guess I have to backtrack and retract my previous statement about not updating the Shield Pro running Channels DVR. Turns out I didn't have the auto-update disabled so all my Shields updated themselves to 9.0.2. I don't know when this occurred but apparently no harm, no foul as concerns the operation or stability of the Channels DVR.

HI All

I just upgraded to Nvidia Shield 9.02 and still not able to get access to my Channels Server, do I have to do something to get it working again.

My understanding is the fix for the problem that was in the last release 9.00 is now fixed in 9.02.

Thanks

Open regular channels app and click Help > Update DVR at the top right

Following this statement in the email warning about version 9 in January:
"Please do not update to version 9.0.0 until you receive further instructions from us regarding your Channels DVR Server."

I think in the next email you can tell people its safe to update to version 9.0.2

I have been running my NVIDIA Shield on version 9.0 since your note in January. Now my Shield wants to upgrade to 9.1. Is it safe to upgrade at this point without causing any problems with my Channels DVR?

Yes

Positive? I have been waiting for the official answer. May have missed it.

Been running it since it dropped, as well as all the other builds and hotfixes and workarounds. Everything is fine.

I may go ahead and let mine update. Thanks.

I wish I had not now. The Shield update was great.
Nothing plays. The app will not connect. My static IP is the same.
The web page does not load at all. Just refuses to connect.
Do I need to sideload at the point? I was running the latest pre-release.

Idk man, things have been working fine since hotfix2. Try the basic stuff like rebooting the shield, make sure the DVR is running by opening it from the all apps menu on the shield. You can start / stop it in there also. Perhaps move the DVR server to the 16gb internal storage, I think it runs better than from adopted storage. You shouldn't have to input the IP address if the server is broadcasting, it just finds it. If you aren't using the beta app, install it, either from the settings menu in the stable version or by opting in to the beta on the app's play store listing.

I fixed late last night.
I just side loaded the apk above and it worked.
Uninstalling the version I had and adding it from the store did not work. It was there and I could see it was active but the client(s) could not see any servers.

Thank you for the follow up.

So, it's not really fixed then? The Channels app has to be side-loaded in order to function properly?

The Channels app can be installed from the Play Store.

The Channels DVR server must be installed using these instructions: Channels Support - Sideload Channels DVR Server to Nvidia SHIELD

Thanks!

Ensured the previous version was gone.
Side loaded it. It worked.
