ESPN+ & FOX Sports with Custom Channels via EPlusTV

I just installed a new VM with Lubuntu so I would have firefox on the docker host to first login into ESPN with. I was able to log into ESPN via firefox but with the docker image I was not. I received the one-time ESPN passcode to my email again.

The docker image was able to get all the guide information but when I click on an active event in Channels -- I get The "Event Will Start soon" with then receiving an email from ESPN.

Is anyone receiving this also? I do not get prompted with an email when I use a browser to log into ESPN and watch a ESPN Plus stream. I thought by installing on a fresh docker host and also have a browser available on the docker host I could authenticate properly.

I was able to get it going with a lot of tinkering back when Maddox first posted about. I was able to get games to play, but couldn't keep the docker container working consistently and gave up on it.

I tried again a month or so ago and sometimes I would get the emails from espn and sometimes I wouldn't, but I never could get the streams to work again. I got the "Event Will Start Soon" message like you describe.

Not sure how to explain this but I will give it a shot.

I removed the docker image and then reinstalled it with a different channel starting set. (I had ESPN Plus starting at 400 but now moved it to 700) Once it was up and running again I noticed that the channels numbers were still in the 400's. I then went into Channels settings for the custom channels and told it to Ignore Channel from m3u. I refreshed the guide again and saw channels numbers in the 10,000's but with a label of the 700 in the guide info. I then went back to the settings in Custom Channels and set it back to Prefer Channel-number from m3u. I then found an active event and video started to play. I received an email from ESPN stating a new login with headless chrome BUT no one time passcode.

Not sure if this helps anybody and if this will stop working for me but thought I would throw it out here since the steps makes no sense to me why it is working now.

I tried again this morning and It seems to be working for me. I did receive an email from espn/disney saying that there was a login to my account. It referenced a headless chrome as the source. But the feed played. So, I don't know how I got the pin confirmation email to go away. I think I remember that I had to authenticate with a chrome web browser and then that cookie is some how saved and used by the headless chrome in the Docker image?

like many I'm having problems getting through the passcode email that was sent to me after playing one video.

is there any way of getting around this?

For me it was almost a little bit of luck to get it to work.

I deleted the container, then recreated the container.

From the host running the container I went to ESPN website and logged in. (I did this hoping to capture the cookie -- not sure if it does or not)

sudo docker run -p 8000:8000 -e ESPN_USER='YourUsername' -e ESPN_PASS='Password' -e START_CHANNEL=700 --name ESPN_Plus m0ngr31/eplustv

Mine still didn't work and this is when I started to play with the channel settings. I noticed that even though I had my channel settings set to start at 700 they were still being mapped to 400 which was my old settings. I went in told channels to ignore channel mappins from m3u. I think it then was remapped to some really high number like 10,000 (I don't quite remember). At this point I tried the channel again from the web interface guide (Live TV - > Guide) and was quite surprised when it started to work. I then stopped the stream went back to settings and set it to use channel numbers from m3u. I then went to my tv and it then worked from there also.

Like I said -- I am not sure what steps I did to actually make it work but this is what I went through and it has been working for a week now. Hope some of this helps.

I just got mine up and running today on an intel mac. I was not sure it was working on the docker side, but once I put in the m3u and XML everything worked. I also set up the "channel collection," as recommended by Maddox at the top of the thread, so only the active live streams populate the collection. Happy to have this in time for football to start back up!

Having issues here. Looks like my container is unable to pull live events so the XML is blank. Anyone else with similar issues?

I was able to get this working on my synology nas and truenas scale. Watched some little league. However both have the same problem. After a little bit of time I would just lose connection to what I am watching. Pretty much makes it unusable ;-( I don't have issues with any of the other services I run on Channels. So I am not sure if its a problem with channels or if its a problem with how the docker image handles streams. Just not sure.

I have the ESPN plus channels freeze also but not all the time. Sometimes this happens only after 30 seconds of playing and then other times it doesn't happen at all. Going back to the guide and clicking on the channel again does start the stream immediately though.

I've just tried to install this a few times but no matter what I do it doesn't seem to work.

Everything shows up in the guide but when I try to watch something it gets hung up on this screen:

This is what is showing in the SSH window.

Yeah that started the other day. I couldn't get a stream to start at all. So it seems something has changed to make it worse than what it was. Prior to I could at least watch maybe 10 minutes before it would drop. Now it will not even start. I ended up removing it as a source. It needs work.

Anyone know if a solution similar to EplusTV exist for Bally Sports live streams? I’m aware that MLBTV has an integration for channels but I’d prefer not to pay for another sub when I pay for the channel in my cable package. Now that Bally does not participate in TVE I find myself needing to use their app for games But I’d love to have the DVR features channels offers. I have searched to no avail everywhere I know to look so if anyone has info or other solutions I’d appreciate the help.

As for EplusTV I’m a big fan and it continues to work great for me!

What are you doing to get EplusTV to work? Especially with the US Open going on right now I would love to have the ability to use the application.

I wish I could be more helpful but the answer to your question is nothing. I am running my channels server and docker desktop(with eplustv) on a Mac mini and have not had an issue with the streams. Occasionally I will get a “connection lost” error but usually after starting the stream again it doesn’t drop.

I was playing around with a new docker image this last weekend and I also see the "Event Will Start Soon" message. My docker image which I created a few weeks back still is working fine. I don't remember a few weeks back receiving the message from ESPN "Save over 40% a month" as a splash screen. Could this screen be blocking getting the stream to work?

I am not sure how to troubleshoot this from within the docker container. I am also using VLC to test and when pointed to my original container the stream works but not with the corresponding "channel" with one of the new containers.

Any ideas if this could be causing it the stream not to start?

the screen caps are very very helpful!

step by step with screen caps for channels dvr PC version would be greatly appreciated as I go back thru some 237 posts here and parse it (pun intended) together....

please correct if I'm wrong,

  • using espn+ you can create custom channel in channels dvr that will populate and update the schedule guide with sports that are live?
-I'm cross referencing stream links (yes I did post there too) but since Disney + has a bundle ESPN+ Hulu+ if these could be added to the channel grid so as not to have to open each app that would be super. (end goal) (I do understand stream links is per show? episode ? yes I get movie but wondering series) if that would populate in grid? or library? cross referencing here because assuming what works for ESPN+ would/should work Disney+ and HULU+ since its same sign in?

thanks for patience!
