File size for the 4K broadcast of Super Bowl LIV?

Anyone have an idea how many GB per hour a 4K stream on FS1 is? I'm wondering how much space I'll need to record the 4K broadcast of Super Bowl LIV.

Form what i have watched , the cameras that are broadcasting the event are not 4K HDR even. so even if u get a 4K stream, it is upscaled. The cams are 1080P 60.

Fubo is airing it in "HLG" though.

Not sure on file size. And i did not know that TVE even supported 4K channels.

I see you also posted on the SD forums. I'm uncertain how Verizon is compressing their 4K feeds, but 30-40Mbps seems acceptable. Calculated out, that puts it at a max of 69120000bph.

That's 8,640,000 Bytes per hour. That's 8.64 GB/hour (base 10), or 8.2397GiB/hour (base 2). That's roughly twice the size of 1080P OTA broadcast data.

A Blue ray 1080p movie at 1hr 35 min or so is 25GB. But that does use a high bit rate.
So I would imagine that 4K video needs far more space.
just looked. 4K Bluray is 35-50GB for same length if u rip the raw file out.

The guide data at SD doesn't show the Super Bowl on 1498 (FIOS TV) but Channels and TVE does. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the link.

Are you saying that Channels is going to pick up the 4k TVE feed?

Just to set some expectations for the big game, the Apple TV has had issues rendering the 4K stream direct off the HDHomeRun in the past. So if you want the 4K stream, get the fox sports app ready just in case you have issues.

We haven’t done any optimizations for 4K as it isn’t something that’s been around long.

Is this for the people that are in a FOX O&O area? If there was a national 4K TVE feed, I'd love to record it.

Yeah, just Prime owners.

There won’t be a 4K tve feed. Here’s info on how to watch in 4K:

Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry for posting incorrectly early today; that's what I get for posting at 5 AM before I go to sleep. When I saw the high channel number of 1498 I thought it was a TVE channel. I was wrong about TVE; if you have a Prime and FIOS TV the 4K broadcast is on 1498.

Is anyone able to successfully transcode off channel 1498? I just tried as a test with the pregame and it seems to be stuck in a loop.

Wonder if our NAS is just not powerful enough to handle 4K transcoding or if something else is wrong.

Guide data for OTA is showing HD HDR?

That’s cool there’s a tag for HDR. The future is finally happening.

The HDR format of the broadcast is HLG which is only supported by TVs and no streaming boxes.

I thought the Fox sports 4k HDR feed is using HLG

Only on the fire tv app. Everything else is SDR. And the broadcast one (cable and satellite) is HLG.

Ok, when it works the HDR on the Fire tv is amazing, but it’s inconsistent.

Same on my Firetv 4k and Apple TV 4K. Haven't been able to watch for more than 5 minutes without it gown down to like a less than hd stream. My Apple TV is hardwired connection to a 1gb fiber. Pathetic.

Is the 4K HDR streaming working for anyone else? The HDR Looks stunning when it works.

I'm watching in on my nVidia Shield - the AppleTV just couldn't handle it. I checked the stream info on my DVR and it's 3840 x 2160 @ 60fps and 20 Mbps HEVC. When using the standard HDHomeRun app it seems to trigger the 10-bit Rec. 2020 mode on the Shield but it doesn't seem to do the same via Channels, but honestly I can't be sure. What I will say, even though it's upscaled 4K, it looks significantly better than the 720p feed that is coming in via my regular Fox channel.

I did check the HDR stream via the Fox Sports app and it was super-washed out - more so that typical HDR and I didn't want to mess with it.
