"Fix Incorrect Match" no longer updating show metadata

A couple of my recently imported shows were incorrectly matched, so I used the "Fix Incorrect Match" feature to fix them. I have used this in the past with success, but this time it only fixed the episode matches. The show metadata remains incorrect (art, title, description, etc).

Of note, when I have used this feature in the past, I would see the episodes disappearing from the show page in real-time (as they are moved to the page for the different/correct show). This is no longer happening, perhaps the episode metadata is being updated but the episodes are still being associated with the original/incorrect show?

You need to match the show using gracenote (which gives you the summary and artwork for the show), then fix match again using TMDB (which only updates the episodes, not the show) if the episode filenames contain the S##E## as seen at TMDB.

See BETA: TMDB metadata for TV episodes

I don't think I'd realized the TMDB metadata didn't update the summary/artwork. That was the issue.

This particular show is not in Gracenote, so I was trying to use TMDB as the source.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to manually update the show description and artwork after Channels pulled in the TMDB episode metadata.

I'm experiencing a metadata matching problem with a TV series imported into Channels DVR from PlayOn Home.

Problem: Last Seen (2026) — Apple TV

Channels incorrectly identifies this series as Last Seen on Holiday .

I've attached an annotated screenshot showing the sequence:

  1. Channels initially displays the incorrect series.
  2. I select Manage → Fix Incorrect Match .
  3. I find the correct Last Seen (2026) series using TheMovieDB.
  4. I select the correct series, but Channels continues displaying the incorrect title, artwork, and description.

The correct Last Seen series is available in TheMovieDB but does not appear in Gracenote.

Successful comparison: Brothers — Apple TV

I encountered a different matching problem with Brothers , starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, also imported from PlayOn Home.

Initially, Channels failed to find any match. Instead of displaying the show's artwork, it displayed a generic blue background with the title Brothers .

However, when I used Fix Incorrect Match , I was able to select the correct series and successfully update its metadata.

Unlike Last Seen , Brothers is available in both Gracenote and TheMovieDB .

Observations and questions

As a software developer, I suspect the original incorrect match for Last Seen might involve partial title matching, since "Last Seen" is a substring of "Last Seen on Holiday."

However, the unsuccessful correction may be a separate issue involving metadata provider selection or persistence.

The contrasting results suggest two possible factors worth investigating:

  • Whether Channels handles correcting an existing incorrect match differently from correcting a previously unmatched series.
  • Whether successful show-level metadata correction requires a valid Gracenote entry, even when the correct series exists in TheMovieDB.

Is this expected behavior, a known limitation, or potentially a bug?

Thanks!

This is currently expected because TMDB doesn't have 4x3 artwork.

You could edit the art and use the cropping tool to select an appropriate replacement.
