Flickering image

Hello,

I’m from Israel and I have a little flickering image constantly in all SD channels (video codec H.264).
It’s mainly felt on the symbol channel and built-in subtitles.
I tested 50 and 60 hertz refresh, 720p resolution on apple tv and it didn’t help.
It doesn’t happen in VLC app on apple tv or computer.

What can I do?

Thanks.

I also see it here in the Netherlands, i think it has something to do with deinterlacing. With mrmc i saw it also, set the hardware deinterlacing to software deinterlacing was the solution.

So for the Channels app, there isn’t solution?

I dont know, i think they use the Apple internal video player, and i dont know if you can change this in the internal player

We use a similar deinterlacing algorithm as VLC, so I’m surprised you’re seeing issues in Channels but not VLC.

Can you capture a short sample video from http://HDHOMERUN:5004/auto/vCHANNEL?duration=15 and send it to [email protected]?

For example, if your hdhomerun’s ip is 10.0.1.1 and the channel number having issues is 12, visit this URL in chrome: http://10.0.1.1:5004/auto/v12?duration=15

I sent you.
Also in InstaTV Pro app the problem doesn’t happen.

@michaelg We did not receive any emails.

We received the sample video and were able to reproduce the issue. The flickering is happening in our deinterlacing filter. We use the same filter as VLC’s “Linear” option, and you can see a similar flickering issue if you select Linear inside VLC.

With VLC’s default Blend filter, the flickering is much better with your sample. Linear is usually preferred for sports and other high motion video, but we will add an option to switch to Blend inside the app for the next version.

Thx the blend filter works better here

The Blend is better than the Linear for me.
I’m waiting impatiently for the relase next version.

I can attest to blend looking better than linear, at least as far as watching the HDHR feed inside of VLC. I’m definitely looking forward to the next update!

What is about Yadif (without 2x) algorithm? I think it’s better from Blend.
The Yadif 2x is more smooth frrom the Yadif but in the VLC wiki site says that it’s very heavy on the CPU.

Unfortunately yadif does not perform well on the ATV CPU

What is about QTGMC algorithm? Is it works on the ATV?
