I use the standalone app and I’ve seen it happening with hdhr live channels when you set the experimental driver, no matter the interlacer.
I have seen it on both hd or sd channels and on tvOS 15 there were no issues with the experimental driver and both linear and experimental deinterlacer
I believe it is only on the hdhr channels. Did not have the issue under ios15.
I have tried matching on and off also tried changing chroma depth but it made no difference. Going to legacy driver clears the issue.
I noticed it on an OTA recording that was 480i. Enabled stats and then saw that I was in fact seeing frame drops. I had experimental deinterlacer and experimental audio enabled. I turned off exp audio and then the problem went away. Then later on it happened again on the same recording. So the audio had nothing to do with it. I then skipped back while the recording was playing (and dropping frames) and the problem stopped.
Confirming here that the issue seems to be isolated to interlaced OTA. Same channel can random drop some, drop a lot, or not at all.
I noticed the more movement is in the scene, the more it drops.
Please try this build:
I've sent you and email to get a beta enrollment link for my apple tv
Unfortunately the beta program is only for DVR subscribers. We will try to get a new release out soon.
Seems to have fixed it. Watching CBS with driver back in default and no stutter. Thank you.
We have submitted v5.5.1 to Apple for review
Just installed the latest update for the standalone version, default video driver is still dropping some frames.
The situation is way better than before anyways.
Any difference with audio driver set to default?
Can you submit diagnostics from the app after seeing the drops
No issues here with everything on default
@tmm1 frame drops on 24fps progressive imported content. Just sumbitted diagnostics. Audio driver default
Update. Pausing and playing 1 time makes the frame drops stop
I've just sent a new diagnostics log with frame drops using experimental audio driver.
I've been searching for a setting that would let me turn this stats overlay on. Please share how to enable it. But, if it is coming from HDHomeRun, then I don't have that. Was looking for an AppleTV function.
While watching a video on your Apple Tv, press the DOWN button on the control dial. It'll bring up "Info and Options". Now, press the RIGHT button, to go to "Options", then press "Down" then "Right", then "Down, Down" to "Show Stats" then press the Center button to select them and bring them up. Then press the "<" back button below the control pad to get the info screen to vanish. That'll leave the Specs screen for you to look at.
Do the same steps and Uncheck "Show Stats" to make it go away
This issue is still occurring and is very noticeable when watching something like the news that has a ticker tape/scrolling text at the bottom of the screen. Every few seconds it changes from smooth playback to a small hiccup and if I have the specs on the screen, I can see the dropped frames (output) increase at the same time it occurs.
I have the latest gen Apple TV 4K running tvOS 15.6 and Channels app 5.5.3
It occurs when watching a recording of an ATSC 3 broadcast with 1280x720 native resolution and 59.940 FPS. I've tried both the legacy and normal video driver and both have the issue. I've uploaded my diagnostics (but not sure where it went/how to identify which logs are mine)
Looking forward to getting this fixed because now that I've seen it, I can't stop seeing it.
I have three ATV 4k devices and I do not see what you describe on any of them. I am using the latest beta on the ATV and on my server. This seems local to your particular configuration.
