HACK: Use Channels DVR as a Plex tuner

You could just grab a $19 Onn Streaming device from Walmart and have channels.

Install projectivty launcher on it to get rid of the bloat and it’s a decent little streamer for travel.

Here is a video on how to install the custom launcher here.

Would there be any way to filter down and only send specific Channels Collections over to Plex? Then I could have multiple tuners in Plex (don't like the way Plex does grouping based on their own metadata and not how I want things grouped!).

You would have to use XTEVE or threadfin for that ... You can only have 1 Tuner from Channels DVR in Plex ... @tmm1 I tried adding a TVE and Pluto from Channels DVR and all it did was override the previous tuner.

Yeah, but even then I imagine I would have to setup multiple instances as I don't believe XTEVE or threadfin can advertise as multiple tuners, can they?

Correct ... you would have run them on different ports.

Yeah would be nice to have multiple instances. Is it a port issue?

Also would be nice to mimic the tuner count of the playlist you’re copying. Plex tuner sharing is really nice when tuners are full.

I have a feeling that the issue is that Plex mainly sees it as IP address and port. And if sees another one it just thinks it’s the same.

Anyone playing around with this hack may be interested in this new feature in the latest Pre-Release of the DVR:

In my setup, it makes more sense to be able to share M3U's from a customized Channel Collection to Plex, than it does from an entire Source or Sources.

It’s also important to remember that you can create channel collections that aren’t even used in your client. So you can make them for external projects without clutter.

Absolutely awesome update

This is a great addition.

@maddox ... It appears that I can only get 1 M3U out o the collections cannot export a 2nd one.

Can you explain in more detail?

I created an OTA collection with only OTA Channels I want ... I extracted the M3U for it.... I then created a Cable collection with my preferred Cable Channels ... but I cannot export the M3u for it.

What does “cannot export” mean? Are they unique m3u URLs?

Do the URLs return the same set of channels?

So is there any way to keep the order in plex of the collection? Renumbering possible?

Wait, you’re not on the latest version of the pre-release. If so you’d have a manage drop down there, not buttons.

Sorry My Test Machine is updated was on wrong machine.... My main is recording will update in a few minutes.

Hmm, I have about 40 Channel Collections and after updating to the latest pre-release I see this menu available on all of them.

I've tested copying the M3U url to 3rd party multiview clients apps and after changing "https" to "http" and changing the CDVR address to the internal LAN IP of the server, it works nicely.

However, I noticed that the EPG URL is the same, for every export. Should they be different per each Collection, or is this intended behavior?
