HDHomeRun DVR 05-12-2016 - Channels will not start

It appears that Channels App is not compatible with the current HDHomeRun DVR Release (05-12-2016). I installed it and Channels App will not start. I went back to the HDHomeRun DVR 04/26/2016 and did not have a problem.

I understand you are not putting in any more effort into this so current customers should not upgrade. I always keep a copy of the prior version so was easy to switch back.

I’m having the same issues. Version 1.5.3 from the App Store seems to work fine, but the beta version does not work with the new DVR/firmware, at least for the HDHomeRun Prime.

Only the beta version supports the HDHomeRun DVR so I believe it is having a problem bringing up the DVR List of Recordings (or related). The New Firmware is not an issue. Both of my Primes now have the New Firmware without an issue. Just went back to the prior DVR.

Good to know. Although the Channels beta is still far and away the best way to watch recorded material from the HDHomeRun DVR on Apple TV, I’ve moved away from it being my primary way to watch it once they said they were no longer developing for it.

Thanks mike. I also save prior versions of the DVR Record.

Is this defenetly an issue? I’ve had an email from Silicon Dust telling me about the update. Looks like they’ve built full android support for the Nvidia Sheild. Doesn’t help with my android powered Sony TV though :weary:Wander if they’re going down the Apple TV route too, hence Channels withdrawing support.

Well, I’m caught in a trap. Yesterday, I foolishly loaded latest SD DVR on MyCloud before checking in here. After playing with update via Kodi and Android clients, went to watch real live recordings on Channels DVR Beta. Oops…no load. Figured it was due to the new SD Recordings format.

OK, no problem, I have previous releases. Since I use the Windows setup to install on NAS, I deleted Win latest and reloaded 4/26. Resetup on NAS. No joy…Even copied the recording file from 4/27 over the 5/14 file. Could then run the Beta but it doesn’t pick up the recording engine. So my beta now looks like the regular Channels app.

Since Mike was able to reload without the same problem, I thought I’d try install on Win from 4/26. Same problem.

I do have a full safe point for the MyCloud as of last Mon. It took over 48 hours, so it will take me 2 days to restore. And it took 5 starts to get a full safepoint, so WD software seems to be flakey. Also, I’m hesitant to even try since the 4/26 Win install didn’t work. There has to be something else that I can try first.

Any ideas?

I followed Mike’s lead on this. I am in an OS X, Linux (NAS) environment.

I stopped the DVR Record engine, deleted the hdhomerun_record file on the NAS and then copied the replacement file to the NAS. I changed the file permissions at this time and then restarted the DVR.

This worked for me.

@DebbieFL - I am guessing the Windows DVR Installer downloads the current release.

Yes, however, I have saved all the previous. I deleted 5/12 from Win and reloaded 4/26. Even tried the one before 4/26.

I am fairly confident the direct NAS install file you sent earlier will solve this. The logs are still showing 5/12, so the Win installs (NAS) didn’t overwrite with 4/26 package. Since you and Photosmike have it working, why not me?

And as usual, I can’t stop the NAS until later tonight.

Thanks for all of your help.

Successful install of 4/26. Channels Beta DVR is back.

Loads of thanks to both d21Mike and photosmike for your help.

Can someone send me a link for/or a copy of the previous April HDHR DVR update. My Beta’s just stopped working. I think my NAS might have auto updated the DVR software to the May update and killed my DVR :frowning: but can’t see how that happened as I thought I would of needed to install it using my laptop.
My original channels works, but now I get no guide data, accessing through Kodi works, but again no guide data so can’t schedule any recordings. I’ve tried restarting everything and even reinstalled the Channels Beta but it just refuses to launch.
Does this sound like the issue you guys had with the crappy HDHR DVR May update? I didn’t install any updates and as far as I was aware I was using the August 2015 version of the HDHR DVR.
Unless HDHR have killed the Aug 2015??? It’s all very strange :’-(

I am also having the same issue. Just stopped working overnight with no changes made to the DVR.

You all were making me nervous so I checked my DVR and all is good here. The beta App can see the Recordings and I can play them.

I’m trying to figure out the common cause, what NAS are you using ? (if you use a NAS that is)
I’m using a 2TB MyCloud.
I’ve finally got Beta app to launch and my metadata to start showing again after opening the HDHR installer app and getting it to rescan all the channels. I’ve not touched the NAS installer on the third tab though, worried I may accidentally install the May update which kills the Channels Beta DVR side of things. I then rebooted the NAS. Thing is Beta now appears just like the normal app, so none of the DVR tabs are appearing, no recordings or search section.
Mike, is there anything else I can do to try and kick start the DVR software? Oh, I don’t know how to do a manual install with that link. Just keeps downloading a document, no run option and when I open it, it’s just full of code. I know I’m missing something here, and yes… I’m thick… I know nothing about programming and software!

Just read your response on the other thread, sorry, too technical for me, thanks anyway bud. I’m thinking this has something to do with the NAS. Firmware update at 5am this morning, suddenly DVR side of it goes dead.
Can’t figure how to get that manual reinstall to work though.

I am using a NAS but I switched over to the Synology NAS. I was using the WDMyCloud NAS. But pretty much the same.

If you rebooted your NAS then you either need to go thru the Windows Install (which you can not do) or you need to use the Manual Start using SSH since the DVR will not restart after a reboot.

To use SSH on Windows you need to install Putty. When you SSH into the NAS you will be like at the DOS Command Prompt. You then need to change directories into the HDHomeRun Folder and issue the start command. This is documented on SD with how to do a manual install. But you don’t need to do the full install since it is already installed. You just need the START STEP.

I am using the 2tb MyCloud.

Followed that chap down to a T, issue is when I checked with the status command, it said it was already running. So I’ve stopped it and stated it again. Just waiting for the Mrs to stop watching some BBC jizz program and I can check to see if it’s running OK.

Check the firmware on the NAS, any money it updated in the last 24hrs and the update has rendered the DVR software useless. Got to be a way around this.
