Help With Understanding HDHomerun Premium Channel TZ Alignment in Channels DVR

Hoping someone can untangle the mess that seems to be HDHomerun Premium channel guides. I understand that according to their site you have a number of TZ categories, i.e. National, EST, PST. However my question is within channels which one of the TZ’s should we choose (when looking at Settings), EST Or PST for channel refresh ? The concern I have is that obviously the Guide is showing your local TZ but the programming is therefore shifted in the sense of which episode of a show etc is actually playing at that time. I’ve also seen shows that have morphed over to another (i.e. 2 hour show ends up being a 1 hour show and a separate 1 hour show).

Therefore just trying to understand best way to set this up.

I did update to the latest beta and actually now don’t see EST/PST for Premium anymore, just my own local TZ so assume this has been changed ?

Thanks for any assistance

Since you are in mountain time, you should be receiving PST stations on your Premium TV subscription. Some stations are only available as National feeds, so they will be in EST.

The guide data in Channels DVR should match what’s airing at any given time. If it doesn’t, then report the channel with the incorrect guide to us.

Thanks again for your help with this. An example last night was A&E, reporting Live PD S2 E82 when in fact it was an earlier show. Today I just checked AMC which shows Godfather should be playing but instead its showing MASH.

Did you change the option to EST in the previous beta?

What does it say on http://192.168.3.216:8089/settings/hdhr.tz

Sure enough looks like it switched back, set to PST after the issue last night, forced the beta update this morning and now shows:

{“hdhr.tz”:“est”}

Where do I switch this now as like I mentioned I can’t seem to locate the EST/PST switch anymore ?

Looks like you changed it to est even though you are in pst. I removed the switch because there is no reason to change it and it only breaks the guide data.

Open Terminal.app and run this command:

curl -XPUT --data '{"hdhr.tz":"pst"}' http://192.168.3.216:8089/settings

Thanks so much, I ran the command again and sure enough shows PST now. Do I need to refresh the guide data now or am I locked into the hour until I can refresh piece ? Thanks again

so i should be using this command going forward to fix the timezone info due to my VPN? TBH this is better because in theory i can automate this if i switch to a different endpoint which is in a different TZ.

will channels ever reset the TZ setting on its own? meaning, does a backend upgrade or any other operation modify the state of that flag?

If you don’t mind my asking: What’s with the VPNing? Why are you doing that?

No it will never change.

You should be able to click refresh and the guide data will update right away.

Looks to be working great now, thanks again @tmm1. One more question, any thoughts on putting a Record button in the app for partial recordings or recording what you are watching vs only scheduled recordings ? Thanks again !

I’m not sure what you mean, and I also don’t know which app/platform you’re talking about.

There is a record button in the favorites guide when watching TV on Android/Apple TV.

Sorry I should have added more context. Specifically when watching a live channel on the iOS app(s) you have pause, rewind etc but no record button while watching the stream. Wondering if a Record button could be added here and allow for easy selection of recording live without having to break back to the guide etc.

with the end of net neutrality, i don’t want my ISP throttling my traffic or otherwise deciding what i can do. while one can argue it’s impossible to escape Google’s and Facebook’s reach (for instance, profiling users that don’t even have an account), the ISPs also want to get into this game and you can be sure they are analyzing all of the traffic entering and leaving your house to sell to advertisers.

best any of us can do is to prevent the ISP from monitoring, and aggressively delete cookies and disable as many javascripts as possible. unfortunately the particular configuration of any browser (fonts installed, OS, exact version #s) is enough for entities to track you if they want to. but i don’t want to make it easy!

one further question about this - do “pdt” and “edt” exist? do i need to manage daylight savings on my own at all?

No
