How do i install Channels DVR Server on a NEW DS920+

OK, so I need to create a DVR folder in my shared folders for Channels to store my recordings?
Is that correct?
Then how do I get my current recordings into that folder - Copy them?
Thanks

The Synology package creates a shared folder automatically and sets it up. What is the issue with it?

If you want to use your own shared folder you can do that, but you will not be able to delete the auto-created one IIRC. And you would need to go into the permissions of the new folder, under "system internal users" and grant access to channels.

So how do i get my existing recordings into the shared folder synology created?
I cannot see it from my computer - do I need to map it to have access to copy my existing stuff into it?

Does it show up in the shares manager? Maybe you need to grant more permissions to it so your PC can see it

shares manager? - do you mean storage manager?

yes wherever the shares are managed in the synology interface

ok got it I just mapped the share to a drive.
So now I need to copy all of my recordings in there by copying all of the directories under my old DVR directory to my new share?

correct

and add my TVE Sources back in?

Would it be faster to plug my external WD Elements into my NAS directly and copy from there?

Yes

You can copy the Database folder first, then you would visit x.x.x.x:8089/restore to find the old backup which contains all your TVE logins and passes etc

Then you copy over TV and Movies etc which takes a lot longer

A lot longer being 19 hours?

Depends how much stuff you have, but yea over a network it could take that long. Directly currently it might be a few hours.

So either way I lose whatever I am recording at this very minute correct?

Not trying to be ignorant just trying to get a good strategy for when I want to do this.

Yes when you restore backup you lose anything new you have created since. That's why it usually makes sense to copy over Database first, do a restore from there and let new recordings start up. Then move over the video files because those aren't used until you try to play them.

can i point the apps on my devices to the new server while i am copying old files to it?

yea

Cool Thanks
