I need help setting up port forwarding with a WiFi repeater

Can anyone here please help me with this?? Having the capability to stream my TV out of home, Is one of the big things Channels makes possible with a Hdhr. It was a reason i was looking at Tablo, and one of the reasons i ended up with Channels. But as it turns out, with both tablo and Channels i couldn't set up the Port forwarding, So i couldn't make use of the out of home streaming feature.
The issue is. I get my wifi from my landlord, so i bought myself a Router that i use as a repeater. So now how the hell can i setup the port forwarding?? I do have access to my landlords router and settings. But i had no luck setting it up.

Does anyone here have any idea how to do this? If so could you please walk me through it? I'm not a pro at any of this, but i know enough to follow directions i think...
Please anyone help?
I'd love to be able to to stream TV out of home finally.
Thanks

Still sounds like you have a port forwarding issue. One of the things you will need to make sure that is turned on is NAT hairpinning aka (NAT loopback). Otherwise you will not be able to connect to yourself on your own network. The other part of it is you should assign your dvr server to a reserved ip. So your lan ip doesn't change. Then you can assign the correct port 8089 using TCP to that servers ip address for port forwarding.

You may also have a double nat issue. Post make and model of the gear you are using so we can better help you.

I do have it assigned to a fixed IP address, that won't change.
But the NAT thing I have no idea what is. And do I need that turned on on my repeater? Or on the landlords router??

Ok, My landlord has a optimum cable router. I have a Wavlink Router that I use as a repeater. I'm not sure the exact model. It says Wavlink AC1200 (530HG4)

Port forward needs to be setup on the main router. If you don't have access to it then it may be tricky. Can you change settings on the router or only your repeater?

I do have access to main router settings

On the main router forward the port to the fixed IP of your repeater

On the repeater forward the port to the IP of your DVR PC

Then check portchecker.co to see if 8089 shows as open

I'll try playing around with it. But on the repeater I've seen no settings for port forwarding. Which makes no sense. But I'll try again

If it is configured just as a bridge and not doing any natting then you just need to port forward from the optimum router directly to your channels server.

How would I do that exactly? Say my server is at 196.168.10.145:8089
What do you put in exactly?

You would need to look at the dhcp client list on the optimum router to make sure that you see the chanels server listed as a client, you should also see other clients that have an ip from that same subnet. If that is the case then all you need to is port forward from 8089 from the outside to 8089 of the private ip of the channels server. I would give your channels sevrer a static ip though..

Take a look at this for background

Another way to see if you have double nat issues

Ok. So I logged into router. When I open the port forwarding menu, it shows me all connected devices, but I won't see my server there cause it doesn't show any of my devices connected to my repeater, it only shows what's connected directly to it. So the only thing I have there that's mine. Is my repeaters ip address, that's showing up as connected, I tried forwarding 8089 on that. But doesn't work, remote viewing still not working

So you do have double nat if all you see is you repeater and no devices behind it.

You could turn your router into just a bridge where you would share the same network with your landlords devices. That may not be what you want to do from a network security perspective. So you would need to forward 8089 to your bridge device and then forward 8089 from the bridge device to your channels server.

This is a good article on what you are trying to do.
Also change your port forwarding in channels to manual. Make sure it isnt on automatic.

I'm gonna see if I can do that. Set it up as a bridge so my devices will be visible. Let's see if I can do that

Ahhhhh bridge mode would mean I'd need to pull a Ethernet cable from his router to mine. That's not worth it I'm afraid, he is 3 floors up from me... Na

I would think you could do a wifi bridge but honestly if a cable run is an option it is always better. If the router is 3 floors up from you and you are using wifi, your connection is gonna suck anyway with a wifi bridge. Or get your own isp if that is an option..

But if all that isnt an option, then leaving it as is and doing a double nat will work

What is the IP of your DVR and the IP of your repeater?

Repeater is probably bridged already.

You just need to put your DVR IP in the port forwarding menu on the main router. It doesn't matter if it shows up in the list or not, you should be able to type the IP.
