I need help setting up port forwarding with a WiFi repeater

Ok. So I logged into router. When I open the port forwarding menu, it shows me all connected devices, but I won't see my server there cause it doesn't show any of my devices connected to my repeater, it only shows what's connected directly to it. So the only thing I have there that's mine. Is my repeaters ip address, that's showing up as connected, I tried forwarding 8089 on that. But doesn't work, remote viewing still not working

So you do have double nat if all you see is you repeater and no devices behind it.

You could turn your router into just a bridge where you would share the same network with your landlords devices. That may not be what you want to do from a network security perspective. So you would need to forward 8089 to your bridge device and then forward 8089 from the bridge device to your channels server.

This is a good article on what you are trying to do.
Also change your port forwarding in channels to manual. Make sure it isnt on automatic.

I'm gonna see if I can do that. Set it up as a bridge so my devices will be visible. Let's see if I can do that

Ahhhhh bridge mode would mean I'd need to pull a Ethernet cable from his router to mine. That's not worth it I'm afraid, he is 3 floors up from me... Na

I would think you could do a wifi bridge but honestly if a cable run is an option it is always better. If the router is 3 floors up from you and you are using wifi, your connection is gonna suck anyway with a wifi bridge. Or get your own isp if that is an option..

But if all that isnt an option, then leaving it as is and doing a double nat will work

What is the IP of your DVR and the IP of your repeater?

Repeater is probably bridged already.

You just need to put your DVR IP in the port forwarding menu on the main router. It doesn't matter if it shows up in the list or not, you should be able to type the IP.

Nope, sadly i do not see a way to type in a address, i tried that when i first tried this. It only allows me to choose from connected devices.
I'll take a photo of the page

If i click that orange button to add a new port forwarding rule, it then opens that second photo page, which only lets me select from connected devices. No way to add one manually. Which sucks.

Those are all 192.168.1.x

Your dvr is 192.168.10.x

So your repeater has its own NAT.

On the repeater web UI does it have port forward settings? What does it show on the main settings as WAN IP

That's what you need to pick on the optimum side

On the reappear web settings page there is no options for port forwarding, none. Let me show you a screenshot of that settings page. Maybe they call it something else? But there is very limited options there. Take a look....

First photo is the first home screen.

Then the setup tab...

On other WAVLINK devices there is a Network Tools section. Seems like your repeater doesn't have that so there's nothing you can do with that hardware..

Try going to the web interface and not the app

That is the web interface. I don't have a app for it

Honestly you are behind the eight ball anyway. Wifi is only half duplex and a wifi repeater only degrades things anyway. If you can get your own isp you would be much better off. Or at the very least run ethernet cable to the existing router. Neither may be possible but you kind of have a sucky situation as she exists today.

Honestly.... it's more than enough for me. So no I'm not gonna pay for monthly internet service that i get free now, only to enable port forwarding?? I've had no other shortcomings with my current setup.
But thanks for the advice, if that's what it was.

I doubt this will work but you could give this a try:
On the router forward port 8089 to 192.168.1.6 save and reboot. Then in the channels web ui settings choose automatic for port forwarding. It’s a long shot but looks like you’re at a dead end

I did try that first thing, all expect for the reboot part. But it didn't work. Meaning when I selected automatic on the Channels settings, it would come back as not found

What I’ve always done is turn off dhcp on the repeater. That way it’s not assigning its own clients ip addresses. When you do that what ever you connect through the repeater gets an assigned ip address from the main router. Then you can port forward to your channels server. But there will be two caveats. One…….make sure you have all your settings set correctly on your repeater cause most likely you won’t be able to access the gui of the repeater unless you fully reset it. Two…….you will be visible to everything connected to the main router.

Ahhhhhhh. Thanks !! I knew it's one of these settings! SSI it's the dhcp! Thanks thanks thanks.
Gonna try it out soon and report back.

So tip be clear.... if i do a reset I'll be able to access the repeater settings page? Or Is it that a reset will just turn back on the DHCP setting?
