I thought I got away from "Connection Lost" Ugh!

You need two moca adapters. One on each end of your coax run. That way it can convert from ethernet to coax and coax back to ethernet. Unless I miss understood your question.

You are correct you need 2 ... I have one in the basement connected to a switch and Coax Cable ... the upstairs I have the one built in to the XFINITY Modem/Router...

that is what I'm missing. if the modem provides the internet via ethernet cable...and you have to provide a coaxial IN for the modem...how do you get OUT to the second moca adapter?

I know how 2 moca adapters traditionally work where there is one on each side of a coax but it has just always stumped me how the moca enabled modem/router plays into the equation

Where the Cable comes into the house there is a splitter ... one connection to the splitter runs to my basement that is where it is connected to my moca adapter which is connected to my network switch with the HDHomeRuns servers etc ...

The other connection from the outside Splitter goes to main living room ... another splitter to my XFINITYModem/Router which has Moca built in and my Main Cable Box.

All other TV's are connected wirelessly. No need for anymore Cable boxes as the FireSticks have full access to all my XFINITY Channels and on Demand stuff/Record,

so you do NOT have a second Moca Adapter right? your modem is that second moca adapter?

The XFINITY/MODEM router has built in MOCA so you only need 1 additional Adapter. If your MODEM/Router does not have MOCA then you need at the minimum 2 Adapters.

One way to find out if your Modem has MOCA is to login to the web page usually found on http://10.0.0.1 for xfinity.

yep I do have it...but whats weird is I already have mocas in my house 2 one from the basement to the attic but it still says no mocas detected in the modem. do they only work in pairs?

You need to describe your connection starting from the basement...

In the basement I have a switch with all my devices connected including the moca Ethernet. The moca is attached to coax that leads to splitter that has a coax connected to my XFINITY Modem upstairs.

i need to get better at reading the logs

my coax comes into the home and goes directly into a splitter. 1 goes to the modem and 2 goes into a moca adapter. that moca adapter goes into the modem ethernet. the coax then travels to the attic where I have another 5 way splitter. 4 go to the bedrooms. and the 5th goes to another mocha adapter. which goes ethernet to another switch.

These 2 moca adapters work BUT I have attempted to add another moca in one of the bedrooms and it does NOT work. I just turned on moca in the modem and I havent changed anything yet but the modem says it doesnt see any moca adapters on the network which I thought was kinda weird.

Why are you connecting the Ethernet from the Moca to the modem if the modem has Moca ? If the modem has Moca active you should not connect the ethernet from the moca to the modem ... the coax is enough.

The moca ethernet should connect to a switch or some device. Not connected to your modem.

TVE is a different animal and it relies a lot on your connection to the Internet ... Your connection from the server to the Internet might be dropping. Can you do a Internet Speedtest from your server ?

i just recently switched to a synology 220+

Before worrying about a speed test I’d set up some ping tests. SSH to your Synology and run “sudo ping -O www.Google.com”. You’ll be prompted for your password, and after entering that it will start a continuous ping. Look for large variations in the time number. You want it to be pretty consistent, within a few ms typically. Large variations in the number or packets being lost with any kind of regularity indicate internet issues that need to be addressed.

i will do that....I have gig internet service and I have both Ethernet ports plugged in the back of the synology.

Did you make sure you have no Ethernet from your Moca connected to the router if it already has coax connected to it ?
