Introducing PrismCast: Browser-based Live TV Capture for Channels DVR and Plex

Candidly, I don't believe a 4th gen i5 is suitable for this project. That processor was released more than 10 years ago, and is not a supported processor for Windows 11.

If you look at comparisons for this CPU vs the N100 or N95, it's about similar in overall performance with triple or quadruple the power requirements. BTW, neither the N95 nor N100 are considered suitable for this project either.

It's great that you had success with early versions of PrismCast on this low end system, but if you'd like to stay up-to-date with this project as it evolves, you should strongly consider a platform that's more lined up with its needs.

Well said. PrismCast, to work ideally, needs reasonably modern hardware.

If you want to be as close to “happy path” as you’re going to get, run it the same way I run it: natively, on macOS, on Apple Silicon.

Another great data point is @bnhf as a benchmark for what to run on if you want to use containerized environments.

I got this up and running, and it works great so far for the small number of channels for which I am using ah4c, except for Comedy Central. Is there any chance DirecTV Stream could also be supported at some point like YouTubeTV and Hulu? I know this probably gets into the slippery slope of how many streamers to support, but DirecTV Stream seems like one of the biggest ones along with those two. Either way, the project works well and the timing is perfect because I was just about to buy a 2nd DirecTV Osprey box.

Wanted to followup on the Comedy Central point in particular…to my knowledge, there’s no way to view a livestream of Comedy Central from the Comedy Central website…if there is, can you point me to it? The only way I know of to view the Comedy Central linear (aka live) stream is through a TV provider like Hulu, YouTube TV, etc. Paramount+ doesn’t offer the livestream either, from what I could see.

@hjd hey, so today (going to assume after last update), prismcast started to navigate to the FX stream when abc is invoked. using your abc default setting:

[2026/02/17 13:21:28.835] Login mode started for https://abc.com/watch-live.
[2026/02/17 13:21:47.435] Login tab was closed. Ending login mode.
[2026/02/17 13:21:47.696] Login mode ended.

here is the url its loading:

https://abc.com/watch-live/93256af4-5e80-4558-aa2e-2bdfffa119a0

native install on Mac m1. anything I can do on my end? anything you need for troubleshooting? thanks.

That was a few updates ago at this point.

ABC.com is a mess to deal with. Specifically for the local affiliate. In some markets (like mine), it shows the wrong local affiliate. In others, it shows the right one. It’s very temperamental. Given the GUID (aka long string of letters and numbers) is likely regionally specific, I rely on ABC Live Stream - ABC.com defaulting to the local affiliate…which it should. Except where it doesn’t, such as in your case.

To address this - override the ABC channel in PrismCast with a user-defined one. Navigate yourself to abc.com/watch-live and pull up whatever your local livestream is. Copy that URL into PrismCast and it’ll use it the next time you tune PrismCast.
