Issues with recordings on Mac DVR

Hey Guys, was this issue resolved. I've been having the same issue as [tbrass84] since I upgraded to Catalina. I did the following:

  • purchased a new external drive in-case it was having issues.
  • toggled tuner sharing, no issue when OFF, issue when ON, issue with all recordings.
  • installed the latest beta load.
  • all devices wired [ATV4K, MacPro server]
    Thoughts? Thanks.

Are there errors shown in the DVR log?

Tuner sharing should only affect live tv, not recordings.

Run a speedtest between your mac and ATV4K and post results: Frequently Asked Questions

I'm only seeing "Job 1573610340-7 FBI ended prematurely" on a few recordings. Other than that, it seems fine.
Agreed, tuner sharing does not affect recordings, only that I see similar irregularities when tuner sharing is on during live TV as I do with the recordings.
The speedtest between the ATV4K and MacPro is ~900Mbits/s

What exactly is the issue in the recordings? Are they pixelated? "Recording ended prematurely" means there would be interruptions and missing content.

Since you're running the latest beta DVR, you should see some entries in the log like "[SNR] Statistics for" after each recording. What do those show?

Statistics for "TV/S.W.A.T/S.W.A.T. S03E07 Track 2019-11-13-2155.mpg": ss=100% snq=100% seq=100% bps=13874400,6625120-17309536 pps=1318,629-1893

Image is similar to tbrass84 in the "Recordings Look Horrible" thread.

Please post the set of logs for one recording showing the "ended prematurely" and what happens before/after.

Are you seeing those errors for all recordings, or only some?

All recent recordings have the same issue. I've also started deleting all other non-critical applications on the server to make sure that there are no other implications. Right now the server is only running Channels DVR and SecuritySpy, which both have been running on that server for over a year.

With the tuner sharing ON the live tv is choppy, but with tuner sharing OFF it's good. Not sure if related.

If tuner sharing replicates the issue, that means the network connection between the Mac and the HDHR is not good.

Are they both plugged into the same physical switch?

If you open the official HDHR app on the mac does it stream correctly?

All three are directly plugged into a JGS516PE - 16-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE Smart Managed Plus Switch

Downloaded the HDHomerun app to the server, but it's headless, so I'm watching via Remote Desktop. It's choppy, but no freezing like on ATV4K with Channels. I suspect it's the Remote Desktop performance.

Try the network packet loss test https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/troubleshooting:network_packet_loss

looks fine

Hmm, that does look fine.

Check System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Hardware

Is it set to automatic? Does it show full duplex 1000baseT?

Might be worth rebooting the mac and then trying with tuner sharing again.

ā€œnā€ indicates network packet loss.

This is what is happening during recordings and tuner sharing live tv too. Something is causing network packet loss.

I saw that, that's why I sent the second snapshot

Odd as it's been running fine for a year and only started after the Catalina update, coincidence? Thanks for the test recommendation.
