Live TV Playing In Slow Motion on Apple TV 4k

I'm pretty sure you're correct. Also if you look at Stats
Stream will show Stream Type: HLS Remote
Direct will show Stream Type: Direct

When watching Direct I don't see any Activity

When watching Stream I see this in Activity
Watching ch710 from iPhone (Remux Starting: 14s @ 1.24x (61.48fps)): strength=98% quality=100% symbol=100% rate=6.4Mb/sec buf=0% drop=0%

Are you using tuner sharing? I don't think you should be seeing anything in Activity when streaming directly from the HDHR.

Yep. Forgot I had that on.

There's a little reception hiccup in the beginning but as you'll see when I wind back the second time, it doesn't affect the quality of the video in the buffer.

Of course I forgot to submit diagnostics when this happened but hopefully this will help. When it happens again I'll submit diagnostics and let you know.

How long ago did it happen? If you submit diagnostics now and tell me about when it happened, it may still have the useful information.

Just submitted diagnostics - it was happening again (today is especially bad for some reason)

Edit: for reference the video was from about 5pm EST (48 minutes ago)

We found a situation where we think we have improved the handling around corrupted video streams. Please try the lates Testflight beta and let us know if it helps at all:

Does it make any difference if the Apple TV is connected to the LAN via wi-fi or hard wired?

For what? Anything (like WiFi) that adds network variability into your system will increase the chances of weird behavior, but of the diagnostics I've seen from people reporting this sort of issue, none of them have appeared to be because of network performance or variability.

There had been reports throughout the past with folks that had problem with the Apple TV devices not getting a good wifi connection, and suggestions that they hard wire the device, so a layperson like me might think that could lead to corrupted video streams. But apparently you answered the question in your last sentence. Glad you're right on top of this.

I submitted diagnostics just now. Happened a few minutes ago. Did a reset of the channel right before submitting. Hope it helps.

I just had it happen right now as well. I went directly to the menu and submitted diagnostics.

@eric Just happened again in the testflight build, diagnostics sent.

FWIW I was playing the same channel from 2 TVs (one testflight beta and one prod release). When it happened on the beta it did not happen on prod. I'm not sure if that means anything.

Mine was on the beta from TestFlight, as well. I have ran the prod release in a while.

@jaylittle unfortunately you weren't on the build with the fix. You'll need to go into the Testflight app and update.

Sorry I hadn't installed it yet - was just trying to submit more diagnosis in case it would help. As of right now I'm now running the Channels Beta on my primary television. I'll let you know how it goes, thanks!

I've submitted diagnostics twice today. Both times, the slow framerate was happening directly before hitting submit.
First time was before I upgrade to the pre-flight version. Second time (just now, April 4, 4:20PM ET) was after updating to the preflight version.

edit: sorry, probably not on the pre-flight version, this is the app itself, not the server, right?

Yes, it’s a separate app to install.

You can join our TestFlight beta program by visiting Channels β€” Beta Program from an iPhone or iPad and then downloading the TestFlight app on your Apple TV.

If you do not have an iPhone or iPad please email your Apple ID email address to [email protected] and we can add you.

I'm getting an invalid link when I try to open itms-beta://testflight.apple.com/join/kxU7lcEN on my iPhone. I sent an email.

edit: didn't realize i needed testflight installed on my phone and not just tvOS.

Reported this exact issue with diagnostics submitted, but I guess it got missed. OTA Dropping Frames

TestFlight appears to have resolved the issue. Will do some more testing the next couple days then I’ll mark mine as solved.

[Edit] Not resolved. Diagnostics submitted from the client per tmm. OTA dropping frames - #6 by Rt9IByWrWotnb9U
