Live TV Playing In Slow Motion on Apple TV 4k

Not sure it fixed it 100%, see my April 28 post above. Have not heard if it is related but I did submit the logs.

I just submitted diagnostics. I was playing a 1080i channel and it started at almost exactly 30 min. Into the program. Hopefully this can help out. The linear 60fps eliminates this, but the picture quality is not the best.

Not sure is it is still desired for us to submit diagnostics but I just submitted - this morning watching CBS Sunday morning and also recording it along with other news programs - worst its ever been for me, temporarily corrects when I hit 30 seconds back and forward

Diagnostics are helpful if you are on the latest TestFlight beta (it has more debug info to try to isolate what’s going on).

Ok, thanks - I just moved over to the beta and no issues in the last hour+, will send diagnostics if it repeats under beta, looking good do far

Thanks again

How do you get this beta that seems to be working?

You have to sign up on Channels site, it was explained in a post above somewhere, then from your Apple device, download the Apple "Testflight" app.

No need to login anywhere.

So this issue has been going on since March and the solution is to install TestFlight and become a tester for the Channels developers!

At what point does the Channels development team get their priorities in place and deploy the fix! Obviously they know what the issue is so either fix it or roll back the changes they made that caused the issue.

Thank you for clarifying my post. Much appreciated.

I am just a regular user, so I cannot speak on their behalf, but there was a person here responding who appeared to be a member of their development team. I have not seen him post in a while though, so maybe he's ill or on vacation or something. I'm not positive, but I think the current "beta" version is newer than the initial beta version that I first downloaded when I became aware of it 12 days ago or so. If so, that means that they must still be actively working on it. I'm just guessing here, as I have no other source of information other than this thread and my own use of the Testflight Beta.

They are deploying the fix. This is a normal process for rolling out changes.

I know what a "normal" process would be in any software development organization I have been involved with. This should have been considered a high priority fix though that would have been equal to a hot patch. Hot patches don't take 6 weeks to get out, they take a matter of days. Unless it was that big of a problem that there are other fundamental problems, in which a role back would have been in order.

Ok, mister developer. Thank you for your feedback.

For me, the only frustration stems from the fact that for a while there was active participation and communication in this thread from at least one of the developers. That person has since gone silent.

Someone has to raise the bar of expectations given that the current developers do not appear to be recognizing the level of frustration. If this was an open source development I might understand it, but then it would have been fixed by now.

@hal9000, your comment feels like it is supposed be a jab, but I will take it as recognition that I actually have more experience than you do.

I believe they are compensating for an issue that was introduced in tvOS 26.4. tvOS 26.5 could solve whatever issue Apple introduced with deinterlacing.

There is no identified fix yet. There is no fix on the beta version. There is no fix to deploy as a wide release.

We're still gathering information.

What we know, is what we've posted to this thread. When we have more information, we'll post again.

To repeat: It's an issue with interlaced content from HDHomeRun devices. When utilizing the Hardware deinterlacer, this issue pops up. When switching away from that, the issue does not show up.

This issue was introduced with tvOS 26.4. What changed with that is anyone's guess. Apple's systems are black boxes.

Will it get fixed with 26.5 because Apple fixed a bug they introduced in 26.4? Maybe. But we're still trying to track down the exact reason this is happening to see if we can resolve it ourselves. So far, we have not been able to.

The problem does not exist with the TestFlight beta Channels app, you can run it all day with Hardware Deinterlacer and it works fine, it only happens in the public version of the app.
