Multiple TVE issues with YTTV and Philo

Howdy,

I myself have been having multiple issues with TV Anywhere. I've been trying to use You Tube TV and Philo via the beta and they are junk. Some channels play for about a minute or less and then go out or just buffer until the time out. I have tried multiple methods and troubleshooting steps to fix it with no luck.

As for help from Channels DVR they are worthless and never responded to my questions other then the blanket email they got my ticket beyond that nothing so I am hoping someone in here can provide me with some potential guidance of a setting perhaps I am missing as to why the channels are not play beyond a short shot..

I will say that HD HOMERUN and my IPTV channels do play flawless.

Any advice is appreciated.

You would need to provide much more information for the community to try and help you.

What are you running Channels DVR Server on? What client devices? What version of server and client apps?

Have you updated to latest pre-release?
What does the servers troubleshooting page say?
What do the logs say when you try to tune a tve station?
Hardwired ethernet or wifi?

Suggest you look at this thread to get started:

I have been using Philo for my main tve source for years with no issues.

YTTV, however, is known to have issues... suggest reading the YTTV tve thread for suggestions.

The following channels won't be seen on TVE regardless of provider.
MTV, VH1, Comedy Central CMT, TV Land, Paramount and Logo.
YTTV is blocking applications that automatically log on to different services. We have to wait and see if the Developers can find a workaround.

Hello and thank you for your feedback -

When you say what Channels DVR are you on I have to pause, is there more then one kind?

I am using Windows 11, Lenovo Laptop with 8 cores, 64 Gigs of Ram and the latest up to date version of Chrome as well as the most recent version of Channels DVR for the server. I am using NVIDIA Shield for client devices (2) and both the laptop and clients are Hardwired Ethernet.

I have run the tests and the logs and sent them to technical support with no response. All items in the list have green check marks however which I would think indicates all is well to handle what is need to play what I need. I did not see anything in the logs or troubleshooting pages other then in all cases the channels that load take close to 30 seconds to load, then play for less than a minute and buffer usually leading to either a time out for server unavailable.

What I know is HD Homerun and my IPTV playlists play flawless but Philo, Sling or You Tube will not play well at all and that makes no sense because unless there is a special setting I am missing it has to be something else that I am no able to figure out.

May be some sort of network issues. Run the speed test in the Channels App and post the results. This tests the speed from client to server.

Also, do you have any custom DNS or ad blocking set on your router?

Do you have any third party Anti-virus software's installed (Norton/McAfee etc) on the laptop that runs the server? If so, remove it, they are known to cause issues.

I did the speed test early on as part of troubleshooting. I have 400 mbps with Spectrum and it is running at around 225 via the server test.

I do not have any special customer settings on my DNS, nor ad blocking with Chrome or my router. In fact I have it set up specifically because of using a Plex Server as well with Xteve which I am told does not impose on using Channels DVR.

Again it is my theory that there must be some kind of setting within the Channels DVR that I am either missing or is not identified. But I can't pin point it.

What I find odd from your post with the person claiming to have no issues running Philo for years is that based on that post it appeared they are using the default settings in app which I also tried with Philo, so by does one person's work another persons does not?

I am 100% certain it is not a hardware issue or a software issue it must be a setting issues, but I digress as I am unable to pin point it.

Those missing channels could be related to CBS/Viacom changes: there are a few threads about it from recent days - More content providers killing TVE - #7 by mjitkop

Is everything set to stream as original quality in channels?

When you have the issue you need to submit diagnostics as the devs are the only ones that can really determine your issues directly by looking at the diagnostics. The information you were posting in the community is quite vague and generalized so it’s hard to tell based off what information you are telling us

The server log would tell you what is happening and why the stream is disconnecting even if you don’t think it’s useful, you should still post that information

If the channel takes a very long time to tune, that’s Typically a network issue or the server is transcoding and cannot handle it. However, there could be many other possibilities. Everyone set up is unique. Need to at least see the logs for when you tune, the channel and it disconnects to even start to guess

Don't think so this is a much wider issue then one provider, every channel loads but will not play beyond a minute before the buffer goes to timeout. I have even tried to extend the time out for the buffer to play longer with no positive out come.

There is no way to extend the buffer for a time out... so not sure what you are implying.

The pause/time shift buffer is on the client device. If there is little to no space available on the client device, then that can cause issues.

Please post the segment of your server logs that show you tuning to a channel, and it timing out.

With out that basic info and insight in to things, the specific things the logs say, all we can do is just guess and speculate.

I have the default settings for streaming, albeit I have tried many iterations to see if it would play, i.e. 6mps and 4 mbs , stream, direct, and original etc all with no positive out come.

As for streaming messages and logs if you think it will help here they are:

I have never seen "taboola" in logs before, even when i have had tve issues (xfinity)

Edit: last bit of that shows Fox Sports, and time out and other issues trying to load or manage those ulrs it lists...issues on Fox news side? i really don't know/can't tell. all that is is beyond my understanding and experince.

I have solved the problem believe it or not.

I did the following:

1 Deleted entire DVR, and reinstalled from the beginning and removed restore function from setup as if it were a new installation..
2 I did NOT allow HD HOMERUN to run and unplugged it.
3 I only installed You Tube TV and the TVE provider.

It is running flawlessly, no buffering and no issues.

My assessment is that HD Homerun was creating a conflict, I cannot say conflict but it is likely a conflict.

Also I don't believe the stacking feature is adequately working when you have duplicate channels from duplicate providers. For example I noticed a significant issue with the Hallmark channel with two providers, it is in the codes that is has a conflict and rather then stack it prevents either channel from playing beyond a minute.

My next test will be to see if I an load IPTV channels with You Tube TV and see if it presents a conflict.

More to come.

Thanks

Having stacked/ multiple sources has rarely been an issue.

HDHR is a very separate thing, and has no tie ins to TVE.

If you have multiple tuners for the same channel number, it would go by Tuner Priority in the server (recordings) and by Tuner Priority in each client app (live view etc).

Custom channels or iptv could cause issues, and most often, those are the one that exhibit the behavior you describe, playing for a very short time then disconnecting. As most typical "IPTV" services users try to use are illegal pirate services... And many IPTV services, legit or not, have limits or other odd things about them, so, for that, your millage may vary. You never stated what specific IPTV service you are using that you stated worked fine, while tve did not.

Starting over from scratch, and adding things one by one, testing each for a while before adding another, is a good step. Was what i was going to suggest at some point.

Thanks for the feedback - update.

It appears that the custom (IPTV) interfacing is the culprit - I have HD Homerun and You Tube TV running together fine, but when IPTV is added it is an issue.

That said I would say one thing I disagree with you on, and that is that IPTV is the best provider of all services that works the best in my experience with this platform. It is flawless with recording as well as loading channels, they are supper fast and there is zero buffering. And like any streaming service you are anywhere from 45, 30 & 15 seconds delayed from live TV via Antenna or Cable.

End of the day my problem is solved and now I have my answer, drop You Tube TV which cost $75/M and go with IPTV and HD Homerun with an Antenna. IPTV cost $60 for the year and the Anenna is free, you do the math

So what IPTV service is this that works so exceptionally well in your experience?

Are you in the USA or another country as some places their main provider is IPTV based.

Also, except for times when the channel needs to be re-authorized, tuning TVE Channels takes only one to two seconds for most people.

I have tried several various IPTV services, with channels and had had pretty bad luck.

That sound fishy and not sustainable.
Most pirate/illegal services i have come across have that pricing (too good to be true levels), and offer all the cable tv channels, and premium channels, and other country channels...

Just a warning, It if is one such of those services, then it may work fine now, but could stop working at any time, due to various reasons.

There are legit IPTV services/providers though. Though, many tend to be localized and do not offer a huge selection of national networks and no premium networks.

Yea, and if I ran a legit business, I wouldn't respond to support requests concerning it either. Could be a legal trap.

I wouldn't know about any legal traps, but you can do your own research like I have at Github.
