My FireTV has stopped streaming

FireTV Cube in Norwalk my DVR is in Cypress. The FireTV cube has stopped streaming. I’ve cleared the cache, rebooted the Cube. Unplugged/replugged the Cube. Uninstalled/reinstalled the app, but nothing plays. My iPhone on the same wifi network connects and plays DVR content just fine.

Speed test on the phone (non-cellular):540
and the cube report:250
I even connected the Cube to my phone hotspot and still only got ~250

Not sure of the discrepancy there when both devices are using the same network.

Even so, the cube still has a good connection
Cube is up to date (v7.6.8.8)

I’ve tried a wired connection (though the speedtest reported slower???)

On Channels I tried both direct and stream for quality delivery. (@8Mbs)

I have an Apple TV in another room (same wifi as Cube) and it plays DVR content. (Speed is 250)

All other streaming apps work (Netflix, Amazon, Peacock, etc)

What else can be the problem?

What version number is shown in the app, under Settings > Support?

Is it happening on HDHomeRun only or Pluto/TVE/etc also?

Channels App v4.8.0

I’m not quite sure what you mean by the other question. The Cube will not play live TV (DVR uses HDHomeruns) nor any recorded content.

All other devices in the house work.

Not sure.

Was it working before?

You can try:

Settings > Playback > Advanced > Video Decoder: Software

Last time it worked was on Tuesday.
Just tried software decoding. This is as far as it gets

Submit Diagnostics from the app

I just dropped the quality to 2Mbps and live tv worked.
It chokes when it got to 6Mbps

I finally got the recorded show to play at 8Mbps, but live can only handle 4Mbps or lower or not at all.

Just saw your reply and diagnostics submitted.

I just (re-)discovered the speedtest in the Channels app. I was using another app to test my speed.

The speed the Cube is showing is ~25
The Cube’s native network speed shows ~260

The iphone on the same wifi Channel app speed:~130

Don’t know why the Cube has such a poor connection. But the recorded show is pausing about every 5 - 10 minutes, I’m assuming to buffer.

Funny I just did the Channel speed test on the AppleTV here and it’s download speed is reported as 0! Yet it plays better than the Cube.

Also for the iPhone Channel speed test I reported earlier was the upload speed. The download speed is on par with the Cube.

Try the latest beta version

Not too worried about the AppleTV - need the Fire Cube issue fixed.
I just powered it back on, settings are on 2Mbps and it can't do live TV now.

I submitted the diagnostics, so waiting to hear back from support

Are you using WIFI or Ethernet sound like you have poor WIFI if that is what you are using. I am using FireCube and FireTV's and have no problem. 2Mps is way too low you obviously have a problem with that device.

Try using original in playback quality. Much of the time a transcode isn’t even needed. What’s your upload speed at the dvr server isp?

Original didn’t help. Per the speed test I’m getting around 25mbps same as the iphone on the same wifi.

All other streaming apps work fine

The AppleTv in the other room, same wifi works fine
The iPhone works fine. So it’s not anything with the server. I even updated the server to the latest pre-release.

It was working fine on Tuesday and then just stopped.

I just had it install the beta and no change there.

This Channels app on the Cube is being ornery.

This is all remote streaming and speed tests, correct?
If it is, what is your ISP upload speed at the server side?

I have Spectrum - I do show an upload speed of ~25Mbps - so that does correspond with what the Channel App speed was reporting.

Been running this Cube remotely for 2 years and this is the first major issue I’ve experienced.

I wonder what changed. Did FireOS update recently on it?

Not that I'm aware of

So nothing unusual found in the submitted diagnostics?
