NBC, NBC Sports, NBCU Networks No Longer Available via TV Everywhere Providers

Is this why NBC NEWS NOW is no longer working as well?

I'm in the Minneapolis area and just lost all 4 of the locals through Xfinity TVE this week, not just NBC. I also noticed the Channels TVE support links don't show the locals anymore. I dropped from 100 TVE channels to 90 with Xfinity TVE this week, not sure what other channels dropped. Thankfully, I had also setup an attic antenna with an HDHomeRun and am close enough to get good coverage. So my sources currently include antenna, Frndly, Xfinity TVE, Pluto & Samsung have been how I moved on from TiVo. No complaints from the family so all good here. I can't imagine watching anything without a DVR so thank you Channels! I have tested PlayOn which works well but not wanting another subscription. And I don't want to spin up a Windows device to support the PlayOn Home at lower resolution which seems to be getting orphaned anyway.

FWIW, PlayOn’s Cloud integration with Channels DVR requires no recurring subscription, just uses credits that don't expire: Channels Support - PlayOn Cloud

Thanks for clarifying! I just went back to the website and the monthly subscription is for cloud storage so not needed when using ChannelsDVR. Now I can keep some credits on account & use them when needed.

If I start loosing cable networks that I regularly watch like SyFy, Channels will no longer be useful to me.

Not a fan of adding substitutions either but it is cheaper for me. $2.99 a month plan, I get 30 credits a month. That works out to ~10 cents a credit.

The monthly credits do expire but I’m usually able to use them up.

My Prime became useless when the local cable company DRM'd everything except locals....I've been using TVE and my antenna combined into Channels.

XFINITY is pretty good they only DRM the Premium Channels ... TVE is what drew me to Channels DVR even though I have my Primes. I really do not use the import your content and all the other fancy stuff. TVE is the only feature that separates Channels DVR from the others in my use case.

Is this issue related to ATSC 3.0 and "NextGen TV"?

No

Regarding playon desktop & cloud, they dont include comcast & spectrum as choices to record from. They still have the networks itself, but most of networks make their shpws available 2 weeks after for non cable subscribers.

I know if you have an HDHR you have your locals,
BUT...
if you wanted an m3u for your locals for some reason you can try these, the first one worked for me incl nbc:
You could make a Custom Channel.
Maybe get a local from some friend family member with an HDHR in a nearby city, maybe the 3rd option??
Note: Remove the period preceding http
.http://hdhomerun.local/lineup.m3u
.http://HDHomeRun-IP-here/lineup.m3u

The list gets exported from the units itself

You can only use this to record, right? There is no live tv from playon?

Right.

No

Wouldn’t you need to use an external IP, exposing that remote HDHR to the internet though? Or involve a VPN? Just curious about the specifics.

I don't know but "exposing hdhr to the net" seems logical, so a TRUSTED family member both ways .
I was hoping it would be a simple m3u that could be copied from VLC and used in a Custom Channel.
VLC does play the channels,
But when I look at the "Information" in VLC it is not an m3u but is this:
Which seems to initiate a Download of my nbc stream.
So I guess this is no good.

When you expose any device to the net in that way, it's not family members that you should be concerned about, it would be everyone else out there, complete strangers to you, who would be able to discover and exploit it, too.

Seems as if I've lost all NBC stations, so it appears my affiliate has migrated. Not just the local NBC, but Bravo, MSNBC, CNBC, E!, and USA, although SyFy still appears to work. Can anyone else confirm, or is this just based on the location?

I’m getting this on those channels

I can confirm the same. All are now gone.
