I have this problem from time to time too, Iāll try the latest update and see.
One thing Iāve noticed is the scroll wheel on the new remote doesnāt seem to work. For the native video controls you first pause playback, then rest your finger on the scroll wheel, then the UI changes and you can scroll left or right in a circular motion. This doesnāt seem to work in Channels yet though.
The Jog gesture only works in the native system video player. Channels uses it's own custom video player. It's unclear yet if we can even get the info we need from the new remote to even emulate the Jog gesture.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. Fingers crossed they expose that via some API somewhere then.

WWDC this week, is the API for the circular scrubbing in custom players in the next version of tvOS?
Nope.
Things like this are attached to the system player and are never exposed. Apple doesnāt really have any concern for you when you diverge from their stuff.
They may if it is a big enough issue that it makes the Apple TV look bad. Hopefully they don't decide to open it up only to a select few apps. I expect they will open it up to make the remote functions work for other players, otherwise it becomes confusing for the customers.

Wow - this is such a letdown. Really very little useful.
we got AV1 support - assuming this will prove useful in the future.
Apple intelligence with unit microphones is a possible nightmare for some.

Oh, and they priced it at $300. Absolutely bonkers.
This was an instabuy for me - I'm now 50/50 or waiting it out entirely.

Black Friday price - $150
Well, technically speaking it's not the same remote, the new one's added a little speaker, for Find My support. They've also added Precision Finding, but get this, that feature only works when paired with iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e. Apparently iPhone 16 Pro and earlier users can go pound sand.
not sure if joking but these don't start shipping until mid-November and won't be discounted that quickly, certainly not 50% off on Black Friday

Agreed...Apple rarely has big discounts for Black Friday. Maybe 15% off.
AirPods 4 were introduced at $129 on 9/9/24, next year black Friday price was $69. Maybe we will have to wait another year for a price closer to $150 but at this point what's another year when we've already waited for 4 years?
I feel similarly. For Channels purposes, I anticipate that the only benefit will be increased performance for multiview. I can live with my current model for another 6-8 months until the new model is discounted or hits the Apple refurb page.
