And now Microsoft is killing off Windows Subsystem for Android, so Android emulators will be the only way to go in the future. From Windows Subsystem for Android™️ | Microsoft Learn...
I run Channels on Win11, Haydes Canyon with A 12TB USB 3.1 Thunderbolt drive. Transcoding is with Radeon RX Vega M processor. Had to search for the drivers forever, but it is great. My TiVo died; so when I purchased and when HD HomeRun 4k and Channels -- it's SO much better. I'm glad the Tivo died!
I just got a Windows 11 laptop and installed WSA, however the Amazon Store no longer has Channels (or much of anything else).
Is it still possible for me to sideload this until 2025?
Is this what you were looking for?
I am talking about the Amazon Appstore that is installed on Windows 11.
You'll probably want to go with the MustardChef builds, as those include the Google Play Store and Google Play Services -- much more useful than the Microsoft builds:
Gone, sad to say. In fact the entire Windows Subsystem for Android is going away too. But @bnhf's suggestion is a good option.
Thanks for this suggestion, much appreciated.
I was able to get this running on my Windows 11 laptop. I just had to switch to software decoding, but other than that seems to to be running pretty good.
I also tried this on my Windows 10 system since it's an option, unfortunately I could not get the video to play smoothly. It feels really close though, so perhaps with a tweak or two (driver?) Windows 10 could be an option eventually too.
I really just wanted this so I could watch my TV on a bigger screen when I travel, but I could see myself using this more from home too on the laptop.
Great to have the full Channels on the Windows platform finally.
I just got a new Surface Laptop with Windows 11. WSA is installed, but you can not longer download the Amazon Appstore from the MS Store.
What the best way to sideload Channels?
bnhf above gives the solution that worked for me.
I tried WSA/Builds. Installation crashed and screwed up my system.
Before anyone goes through the pain I did with MS Support, WSA or WSABuilds is not working on any Snapdragon X Elite and Copilot+ PCs. Here.
Is there any plans for a native Windows app now that MS is sunsetting WSA?
The developers have repeatedly said they don't plan to develop any new clients.
If they change their mind, they will announce it.
