Just noticed NICK JR. TVE has huge de-interlacing issues. Thought i saw thread on here about it, or maybe it was some other channels, but search just pulled up a 3yr old unrelated thread.
Not sure where the page is to stream the live tv channel on Nick Jr. Do not see it on their site.
But, the channel plays fine via the Philo app.
Here is image of the issue.
This is on a Apple TV 4K (2022) default video settings. App and server is up to date.
This problem is not unique to Nick Jr. You will see the same issue with other TVE channels of the Paramount group, such as Comedy Central, BET, MTV, etc.
This was mentioned recently in the forum but it is kind of buried in the middle of a thread: Nick & Nick JR - TVE - #7 by adamandaj
This is the ONLY channel that has this issue for me. All the ones you list are fine.
I saw that thread, but ignored it cause the Op was asking about TVE availability. (in 2020)
Interesting. The last time I recorded something on MTV and VH-1, I noticed this issue even though it was not as severe as shown in your screenshot. Maybe they improved something since then but I don't have any recent recordings to check.
Here's one from a CMT recording last night:
It's more obvious to see if you open the image in full screen.
CMT is also a channel that is part of the Paramount group, as you probably already know.
I sent in a ticket to Paramount. They responded and asked for a screen recording, which I shared.
They claim they can't duplicate. Do you have any recent examples / recordings with time you could share?
Like i said, it only happens with Channels. Don't see the issue elsewhere.
Here is link to a recording of PAW Patrol on NickJR.
What I've gathered from your messages is that you have Philo and Channels DVR.
The fact that Nick Jr. works fine with Philo doesn't mean anything because Philo has its own source that is not the same as the TVE source (i.e. stream from the website) used by Channels DVR.
So I understand why you are saying that it only happens in Channels because you are comparing it to Philo.
Having said that, this doesn't mean that there is a bug in Channels itself. I believe that the problem is at the source (website stream) but I can't prove it for a fact because I don't have the link to stream Nick Jr.
As you mentioned earlier, the link to stream Nick Jr. from their website is not public. Somehow, Channels figured out a way to find it and use it.
Another thing to keep in mind too is that Channels DVR uses the incoming streams as is, there is no processing done on the received streams. The only thing Channels does with the streams is put them in an MPG container when storing the recordings. It's a case of "garbage in, garbage out."
Same with Xfinity Stream or xyz app. I know this. The point is, as i mentioned before, when there are issues with tve streams, when i go to the actual source stream, via the network website, the same one Channels uses, there is no issues. Thus, issue must be with Channels and/or a bug in how the client device app is rendering the video. the other channels mentioned that have issue, (i now do see it with CMT, Comedy Central, etc) the tve streams on their websites are fine for me in browser. NickJr, the only one i can not find the page for. ( one probably could if took the time to dig into the code or network traffic and find the url. ) I am mention it cause those are the only other sources I have access to.
You your slef mentioned they(the network presumably) can not re-produce the issue. How do you know they checked the TVE stream and not one of the streams to one of the streaming services like Philo, or Xfinity, or YTTV etc. You don't. Most support reps are not trained well, and probably have no idea what TVE is, assuming a random customer report ever makes it to a humans eyes.
It appears to be a long term issue, been going on for at least a few months, if not longer. Family member who recorded some Nick Jr shows back in August, via pass for their kids, they just discovered they all messed up. Clearly the networks don't care and are just passing the buck.
And THIS has caused issues before, in how Channels encapsulates the data stream.
For a couple years, i, and many others, has issues with Windows Explorer (the file manager in the Windows OS) freezing/crashing, whenever one tried to view the recorded .mpg files from many TVE channels. This only happened in Windows, not MacOS or Linux. Despite the many reports and complaints, they did look into it, found the issue, but then instead of applying a workaround or temp fix so that users could access the files, blamed Microsoft and expected them to fix the issue in their OS thumbnail generation for slightly messed up files with invalid or bad headers, the actual video data was fine. Who, took nearly 2yrs to fix. (there are several old threads on this issue)
If channels had not used the .mpg container, but instead .mp4, .mkv, etc, the issue would not happen.
My "workaround" was to have a script run on a Linux system i had always on, that would simply connect to the network share location of the DVR server folder, and rename the .mpg to .mp4, so that i could then access the folder with out locking up my computer. (.mpg is antiquated container, hardly used these days, where as .ts and .mkv are the normal now.)
Point is, possibility still exists that is it a Channels problem and not a source problem. Or , a mix of both.
Hopefully, providing some example files, as i have done, and the other screen shots of the issue, will help in proving to the network support, that there is an issue. However, they seem keen to just blame the software the user is using (Channels).
Not sure if this helps but I just enabled the nick Jr channel and viewed it on my android phone and ATV and it looks perfect for me. I'm using TVE via Cox and am located in VA (in case they are having a CDN issue or something)
Thanks. Paw patrol is actually where I first noticed the problem. Unfortunately I can't submit this one because I can't even point them to a website that is being used for Nick Jr. I am trying to find examples from other paramount networks where you can get to the stream from their website.
@speedingcheetah can you record the stream from chrome at the same time as from Channels to figure out if this is actually a channels problem? I doubt it but we should do the experiment to see.
I do have screen record software, i just need the links to give a try on streaming that have issue.
Or one can use VLC to play and record the webs stream most likely.
We could try with another Paramount network also having problems. Just want to rule out it's not Channels. And provide them an example stream grab directly from the browser. They claim to have looked, that nothing is wrong, and that they can't duplicate the issue.
Interestingly it's not happening on Peppa Big, except at the commercials!
Like I said, give me a list of links to those networks and I will see if they have issues when I play them. And see if I can capture the issue. I have down several networks online but don’t have issues though I do not know what is Paramont or not.

The other day, I watched CMT live from their website (not through Channels) and saw interlacing issues. The funny thing is that it looked like there were no issues (or so little that it was not noticeable) during commercial breaks. Once the program resumed, it was easily noticeable.
It should be possible, if you're fast enough, to do a screen capture at the right time. I didn't try but I'll give it a try at some point and then write to the network.
