PiP is not resuming on Fire TV Stick

My biggest pet peeve with Channels has always been the lack of functional PiP. What I'm looking for is the following:

  1. I'm watching a show on LiveTV
  2. I get bored of it/want to find something else.
  3. I open the Guide by hitting the back button on my remote.
  4. PiP with audio shows up in the upper right corner.
  5. I can browse the guide looking for another show.
  6. I don't find anything better, and I can push a single button to return to the show that is playing in the PiP window.

With the settings that I have and my remote (Amazon TV FireStick remote), I can do everything up through step 5. But, I cannot do 6. If I hit the 'Play' or 'Select' button on the remote, the PiP window changes to whatever was highlighted in the guide, unless the thing that was highlighted was the same program as what was being displayed in the PiP window, in which case it just closes the PiP window and stops the audio.

Has anyone gotten this to work?

When you select the current program its supposed to full screen.

What are your PIP settings?

@kwolfe19 ... I long Press the home button and you get the option to go full screen or close or pause PIP regardless of where you are in the guide or any other place even if you exit channels.

The one (and only perhaps) feature I like of Plex’s live TV implementation is how it handles this. When you go back to the guides, the guide grid is in the bottom half or so of the screen, with the channel you were watching having its info along the top, along with a window of the content still playing. It stays there, and doesn’t bounce around like the Channels PIP window.

Plex really does not use PIP they use overlays. and windows to display the Video ... PIP in FireTV's and GoogleTV is managed by the OS.

This is the way EMBY does it . ... they just overlay the guide.

That’s not how mine looks on the Apple TV. I’m not at a TV right now, but it has the video at the top. (Ah, you said Emby. I haven’t tried that)

Yeah I really like the way Emby (and Plex) look when bringing up the guide in front of the currently playing video. Just looks like a more polished interface.

I know Channels is just using the built-in PIP but would love to see something nicer.
