Portable Mini TV: Channels on Retro Handheld Gaming Consoles

I'm pretty sure I'll always love my Steam Deck. But earlier this year, I got into exploring even smaller devices for easier, day-to-day casual gaming and especially, emulation. I’m big on nostalgia and there's a vibrant world of "retro gaming consoles" out there. Devices from "Retroid" devices are a few of the many out there that can dual-boot Linux and Android. So naturally, I had to try....

Summary

This is the Retroid Pocket Mini v2, with a 3.9" AMOLED touchscreen, running Android 13.

Spoiler alert: Channels works great! No surprise, but I'm able to navigate the UI with the d-pad, too. Picture-in-picture works nicely. The Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 devices have different form factors with much larger screens, but since I already have a Steam Deck, and an iPad too, I made the choice to go much smaller for this "everyday carry around" device. This little guy is more pocketable, very ergonomic and extremely well-built. I'm digging it so far!

Cool! I installed Channels (through Kodi) on my AtGames Legends Pro arcade machine. Fun to have another TV going in the game room. I even used a simple Python script to update my Bitpixel LED marquee to scroll what channels was playing too.
