Problem: Live TV pauses, info bar is displayed (HDHR streams)

Thanks. I was looking on the web interface!

With tuner sharing on or off the problem still occurs.

The problem does not occur with the HDHR app.

Therefore the problem seems to be certainly with channels.

This has been reported for months and not taken very seriously. Maybe it is time to take notice.

Actually, I’ve seen the same issue, too, but I originally thought it was my lan (old powerlines Ethernet). Replaced some gear to take that out of the equation, but still happens on occasion. I’ll try and bring up the same channel on my iPad HDHomeRun app next time and see if it is ok or not at the same time.

One thing I have noticed lately that may coincide is that the Apple TV app has a bigger video cache than it used to. Used to always be around 1-1.5sec video cache. Now it is at least 3-4.5sec. The channels app on iPad at same time and channel only has a 1-1.5sec video cache.

Ok, this problem has now occurred with the HDHR app too. Or rather, I had a much more serious version of the problem with Channels earlier (see screenshot) so gave HDHR a go. Worked fine for about 10 mins and then froze too.

This seems to indicate either a signal or network issue, in that case.

I would recommend enabling diagnostics in your tuner, and posting over in SD's forums. Let them know at which times the error occurs, and they can check the device diagnostic logs (which only they can have access to).

I know you have already done some of this, but since it is occurring in the HDHR app, too, that seems to confirm that it is hardware related rather than software. (Just beware that their support isn't always the best; my personal experience with them has not been good when trying to track and diagnose a hardware/firmware issue. Even when the problem is theirs, they are really quite loathe to admit it.)

I expected the same issue would occur in the HDHR app, because according to the Channels diagnostics it simply stops receiving video data from your tuner. Thus it has no choice to pause and wait for the audio/video packets to arrive.

I have emailed Silicon Dust asking them to analyse my diagnostics again. Perhaps something changed with my local transmitter and the signal strength has increased. I may try adding another signal strength reducing filter.

Also, for many months I had a smart power adapter with a timed power cycle that turned off my HDHR tuner for 30mins every night. That helped a lot before I went through the previous round of support with SD, after which everything was great for about 9 months.

If your signal is too hot you need an attenuator. I'm 7 miles from my towers and my signal on the hdhr always showed 100% but i consistently had issues. I started adding attenuators until the signal dropped just below 100. (It took 18dB of attenuators to get there). Now i have zero issues.
Get yourself some different values (3, 6 etc) and give her a try... just tune to the channel and watch your signal strength and find the sweet spot.

6db Attenuator Pad (1 each) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013L48XA/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_3ZVCQ374K5WQFFSD97DY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Also if you are running a pre-amp you might want to try running without it. That can also cause the too hot of a signal issue.

Thanks but SD have checked the diagnostics again and confirm the signal is fine.

Apparently there is occasional packet loss though. Which sounds much more likely to be the cause. Guess I’m messing around with network cables.

I’ve just submitted diagnostic report after info bar appeared again. And a few more.
